I think it was Neil Webb who actually supplanted him in central midfield. Trevor Steven was an OK, hard-working wide player.
Neil Webb and Trevor Steven were two very good players but on what planet do they get in any team ahead of Glenn Hoddle?

The 80s, particularly the late 80s, sometimes get derided for its reliance on POMO and Charles Hughes’ ideas. The way Hoddle was treated by England’s national team is a damning indictment of English football in the 80s.
 
Do you think Robson learned from his mistake by the time Gazza came around?

At that point nobody wanted a midfielder in England that was not a runner and a worker. A crying shame it was. As you can see by my avatar Hoddle for me will always be the Best player I have seen play for Spurs.

He wasnt keen ok Gazza till it became evident he couldn't not pick him. He was actually really down on him for a while
