João Palhinha

Yes please

We've obviously made an active decision to not take-up the option we had on him, before he's been allowed to look around and find another club. His age is probably one factor, but his unsuitedness to the system De Zerbi wants to play must surely be another.

'De Zerbi told everyone at the press conference that he 100 percent felt that Palhinha deserved to stay at N17 permanently, and he reiterated that point, obviously, after the win against Everton'. Asked if he would like to keep the Portuguese midfielder, De Zerbi said: “Yes I would like to keep him, 100 per cent".

Why would De Zerbi want - and say - this...if Palhinha 'surely' doesn't suit his system?

This is one of the first big tests for our owners/VV/Lange after the propaganda statement they released. RdZ clearly wants Palhinha, there will likely be a bit of a premium attached to any fee with little re-sale value. Will be interesting to see how they approach it - we'll probably sign him on 31 August for double the price we've currently been quoted

Dear lord I think I'd have to (ruefully) laugh!

Well our option expired 5 minutes ago, so he's free to sign elsewhere now

Or wait for us to loan him again on deadline day, once all our better options have fallen through

He was "always free to sign somewhere else"... all he had to do was refuse a move.... which is why the "deadline" is irrelevant. If he wants to come to us, and just us, then we have Bayern on a barrel.

But I thought you said he was 100% set on Sporting...

If Spurs want Palhinha then financially it's no contest between us and Sporting , total wage bill at Sporting according to the clubs financial accounts 88 million euros and they are not going to pay big transfer money for someone who will 31 at the start of the season. Also in the equation is that his contract at Bayern runs until 2028 so plenty of bargaining to be done by all sides.

Think £20m for Pauli sounds fair.
As you say he has two years left on his contract...so Bayern are liable for him until he's 33...then what from their pov?.
Decent fee for them to break that situation at this stage.

I see that Joao's agent is Gonçalo Palhinha (relative maybe) and that the rumours of Sporting interest are from Portuguese sources, lo and behold couldn't be the agent spreading these rumours to get a good deal for his player , could it?
According to transfermrkt figures we have already paid a 5 million euro loan fee so that would come off any transfer fee , wonder if Vinai negotiating skills are up to Levy levels .

We should get him half price, seeing as that's what they got Kane for.

I think we have to what else is out there, if we can get hold of Wharton or someone else, I'm sure RDZ would prefer him, for example.
