Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I really hope the electorate in this upcoming Burnham by election tell him to do one.
Nothing against Burnham - I actually think he's good - but it's an insult to use the seat just because he wants to be PM. He chose not to stand for Parliament and be Major instead.

He could be the only person who can save us from a Trumpist fascist government in 2029. Brown people being rounded up and an end to reproductive right.

We all need the King of the North

The only thing that will save us from a Reform minority Govt are events outside of the UKs control - nothing any Government can do will make people feel their lives are better and remove the fear of the boogy man in three years.

Those people will only understand Reform are phonny when they get into power and fail. That might come at local level, it might come at national.
I don't think we'll see a GE majority Govt again for a long time.

Streeting is a heavyweight?

Thank you! I needed a good laugh this evening.
Health minister is the 5th biggest job in the country after PM, chancellor, foreign sec and home sec.

Objectively he's probably the member of cabinet who has most successful delibered his brief over the past 2 years too (Millband and Haigh have/made progress too)

I was thinking more about him as a personality. He’s a snivelling, self-serving little toad imo.

(There was a lot of nuance in the NHS figures released yesterday, including the number of 12+ hour treatment in corridors rising significantly.)

I have to say, I think this an appalling thing to say. If I were Spurs I'd be going in on this hard, if not now when the season is over. A personal opinion is one thing, but aligning it to the taxpayer losing money is (IMO) disgraceful.

There's no need to bring us into it, he could have just said that they should be hoping WHU stay up because Boris had made a bad deal.
The money we pump into tottenham and generate for local economy will dry up if we're not in the PL, he should be more respectful of that.
Stuff like this makes it easy to believe everyone is against us.

Just going off memory here, but did Starmer stop him running recently in his own constituency or something like that?

Something like that.....
Might have been the Gorton and Denton by-election back in Feb that the greens won?
Yep that was it. Although technically it was the NEC who blocked him as it is against party rules (or maybe guidelines) that a sitting Mayor cannot resign a mayorlty to stand in an MP by-election. Or something like that.
It seems now they are going to waive that position.

Yeh, I read the feeling that they would not block now as the general consensus is Starmer is cooked

I just listened to Barnham's interview with the excellently named Hardeep Matharu there from a year or so back. He's says all the right things, from my perspective, at least.

What is his position on rejoining the EU etc?
edit- just googled it. he is for it.
