Mathys Tel

I think that's a fair assessment. For me Tel is still underwhelming and we still need to add actual starting quality wide men. We only really have Kudus who fits in that category.

If we had a 27 year old Son and a Tel or Odobert getting select minutes and appropriate matches the whole thing would have worked out better.

As it is we have had to rely on players who aren't ready yet and might never arrive at the level we require. Quite a fudge up in terms of squad building.
If we had a 27 year old son we would be in villas position
He would have been doing what rogers did for them in that 3 month spell

As Tel only recently turned 21, I am optimistic about his future. I still remember Son at 21. I like Tel's attitude.

Well that's likely considering Frank criminally underused him. He has the ability and the right mentality, and the things that he needs to improve on are exactly the things you would expect from a young player.

RDZ said he wanted him at Marseille, he will come along nicely under him as will most of our attacking talent like Simons/Kudus and Odobert I would expect....
His play wasn’t negative enough for Frank. Tel didn’t ’respect the horseshoe’

I think you would have to ask Matty Cash about Tel. The Villa fullback looked like he hated every minute playing against Mathys. He just kept coming at him all game, got goal side of him and was happy to get into any foot race. I think that was also Muani's best game as well. RDZ has obviously told these 2 guys to really go at the full-backs.

For me he seems a very average player and if we had a fully fit squad I really don`t see him getting many chances in the starting line up. One minute he does something good like the cross for Richys goal but generally he seems pretty brainless in his play. Ok for the squad but never going to be a regular starter
That is typical of a 21 year old player. He will get better and better as he plays more football. Something nobody has yet commented on is that just before he put in that incredible cross with his left foot that Richi scored from, he put in an equally superb cross from the other wing with his right foot that Muani could’ve scored from that resulted in the corner that we eventually scored from.

From what I can make out Tel has everything except decision making. Young players will always improve their decision making as they gain experience. He’ll be a superstar I think.

Got at the full back and the team will support you

he is making some progress. I will leave it at that. his workrate though and his fight is there for all to see. He needs to work on his finishing though. its atrocious. But a nice cross for Richies goal. So get assists and work on your shooting under pressure. Same with odobert. he was making good progress before the injury. I beleive De zerbi will bring them both up another level. he is good with young players.

He finally got a starting berth yesterday and I think he was so eager to prove himself that he made some bad/selfish decisions at times. He’s not the first player to do that. Whether he’s of the standard we need I’m not sure but I generally like what I see of him thus far.

A couple of times last night he lashed wildly at the ball with poor technique, and accordingly the results were what you might expect.
So yes, needs to refine and improve that. He's young and hopefully he can and will. At this level, some will depend on how much he really wants it.
Execution, efficiency, consistency, professionalism, discipline. Get over the ball, get it on frame, make the keeper save it, etc.
Overall though, he had a good game. :)

agreed. his tenacity, pace, fight and willingness are evident. And for that he needs to be in the team at present. But he needs to calm down when its a shot. its always a bit wild from him.
