Xavi Simons

If only we had Maddison or Kulusevski available to offer a rotation option for the manager.

Hopefully Lange (or whomever is in charge of recruitment this summer) shall sign some replacements for our creative trio (plus cover for Kudus and Odobert) instead of hoping that they’ll all make miraculous recoveries in time for pre-season 🙏
I would imagine out of all our players, Xavi was one of the most rested. Always felt he was in and out, or first sub

Was slightly surprised to see him floored by cramp against Brighton last week, might’ve been simply a lack of match sharpness but perhaps he had an underlying issue which has contributed to this season ending injury.

Sadly I have little confidence in our current medical department getting to the bottom of it and hope that when Munn’s recommended overhaul finally takes place we might see fewer season ending injuries plaguing our squad; although (as Steff says) the lack of depth is another major hindrance what with the sheer number of fixtures nowadays and we might’ve have to play an extra 8 league games next season which’ll stretch what remains of our squad even further.

Maddison, Kulu, Kudus, Odobert and now Xavi. The five most entertaining players in our squad.

I’m off to sacrifice a goat to the footballing gods.

Don't go along with this overplaying theory, think it's purely bad luck. Maybe with the exception of Kudus this season under Frank.
I mean you look at Arsenal, most of their first 11 are the same virtually every game yet have very few injuries. Declan Rice is a machine, seems to play 90 minutes every game.

Well I’ll take the conjecture of a qualified physiotherapist who happens to post their analysis on social media (and has been proved correct about Kulusevski’s “knock” being a serious patella injury which would keep him out for at least 10 months) over our bungling medical department currently.

But you keep wasting your time posting on GG about how the modern world is so much worse than back in your day

I shall in the hope that people see how a useful tool like social media is being used to mislead the population by charlatans, crooks, egotist and politicians (who fall into at least one of those categories).
We see everyday misinformation causing problems and distress to millions, my neighbour who is a doctor gets many calls from people who think they've got a problem from patients who read something on the internet than genuine illnesses, plus rent a mob believing anything against immigrants.

I guess it's a depth vs quality conversation. We definitely have as many players as every other squad in the PL and those others in UEFA comps. We even had too many to register some of the guys in the UEFA squads. I think we pretty much have at least 2 players for every position but definitely have a mismatch between runners/athletes and ball players with guys like Kulu and Madders missing. With Xavi now missing, that's all 4 playmakers unavailable to their manager, unless RDZ can now start using Madders for the final few games. I doubt he'll have access to Kudus and Kulu as the other 2.

It's gonna be interesting to see how RDZ moulds this squad if he sticks around beyond the summer. He definitely needs more creativity and players that can achieve ball retention. Ironically, I think some of our younger loanees would be more suited to his philosophy.

Sad for him, but I think Bergvall in the team as his replacement will contribute n the situation that we're in. Stronger and more direct running. Ideally I would have had Simons and Bergvall starting personally and Gallagher getting splinters, but if we're going with this aggressive press then Richy and these two could be ok.

Not just the part time physios, we’ve now got all of the sports science pros and mechanical engineers weighing in.
