Rodrigo Bentancur

For the majority of those games Frank had Gray, Bentancur and Palhinha available IIRC. That's with Sarr away at the AFCON and Bergvall never given a chance to play those roles under this manager.

I can definitely understand the short term, just need to win the next game, focus. But when we don't win and a couple of those players get injured and we had options available it's not a good look. The next games are no less important.
Yep, it's not as though Bentancur was playing like Messi and was irreplaceably wonderful.
Keeping him on in every game, was just shooting yourself in the foot.
Essentially Tom Frank was guaranteeing himself that Bentancur will (a) be pretty tired in the next game (b) be out for 3 months with major surgery, it makes no sense.

I’m not beating him with a stick or being negative. But he’s been part of the recruitment mishaps. He’s a good player but not consistent enough to be a starter. Appreciate him coming back but I wouldn’t worry if he’s sold even if we stay up. That’s not saying much as that’s my view on most of the current mob.

Can't agree with that, he was a great signing at the time. It was only after his bad injury that his level dropped, that's not something that you can put on the door of our recruitment.....

Could not agree more, as you say before his injurys [ he has had a couple if i remember] he was IMO our best centre M/F player. He is still only 28 so IF he can come back fully fit i hope we see a lot more of him.

I think the term “Great” is widely off the mark, I’d go with decent. Never saw him dominate a game or grab a hold of it and drive the team forward or even out perform other “great” midfield players. But it’s a game of opinions.

He's been our best CM since Dembele finished 7 years ago.

This.

Before that reckless challenge he received from Matty Cash he was beginning to look like his old self and when he signed for us Bentancur was a revelation in midfield.
