It's not about profit. It's if wages + depreciation/amortisation + agents fees (for over 21 year old players for the mens team) is above your turnover.
You could make a £billion loss in a season. If that was spent on 20 year olds you are fine.

Bleak...not sure what can be done. Obviously an overhaul much like the finances of everything in the world BUT is there ever the motivation for this as people with deep pockets are still there to effectively keep the ball rolling or heads above water

Its the race to the top....we all know the vast majority of money goes to players and agents, and managers. And any new money goes in that direction as well.
I'm not sure it's poor management (although there are obvious cases of that) , it's being sucked into 'the game'. With the gap between the divisions being horrific and potentially fatal
