Xavi Simons

Definitely agree. Really impressed with how he's reacted this season in really difficult circumstances.

Think it's fair to say that he has at times at least not shown sufficient quality on the ball, games phases, moments. But I think confidence is a big part of that. What he is showing is that mentality you bring up, keeps trying, keeps fighting, doesn't hide. Imo we know he has quality on the ball, he's shown it here too. I think he'll keep improving if we manage to give him the ball in decent areas and have some movement around him.

The talent is there, the fight is there.

Having a creative player is useless if you don't get the ball to him and don't move in front of him, people say it's CL vs. PL, while I agree having a competent ref helps, Gray/Bergvall behind and the movement of the wide players and Solanke infront linking up also was huge part.

Really on coaching staff to get him clicking consistently

Wasnt a signing I wanted as I was never really impressed with him. However, the first thing that got me was he wants to move forward and he has fight in him.

We need runner in front and from midfield, and players that will get the ball into him quickly. I think against Dortmund, Gray and Bergvall just got the ball into him quickly and it allowed him more time to do things instead of looking around for options

Looking at that he should be rested v Burnley. Gallagher can come in and play an AM role, it might suit us against a physical Burnley side anyway.

Can anyone remember these injuries from younger days. I know when you see the bruising dropping in that way it's a good sign right? As that happens the swelling disappears. I thought that was when the ankle becomes a little vulnerable again and when you need to be doing the conditioning.

So you could well be right that the weekend could be in the cycle of where he needs protecting.

Simons has got stuck in and been physical in plenty of games, plenty of times. It says it all about how we play if we are concerning ourselves with how many tackles our creative player is making in a game....

I remember when we had that lightweight Eriksen, never did any crunching tackles or win any headers, we had to carry him in every match.
