Yes totally. And when Western governments present wars or funding of wars as 'the right thing to do', look deeper. We are no saints. Geopolitics, oil and resources are never far away. The West doesn't spend hundreds of millions altruistically. Pre-war Syria was actually seen (by UK intelligence services) as quite a stable country with a leader who we could work with. But the geopolitics with Israel vs Iran and (proxy US vs Iran who backed Syria) and Russia (who backed Syria) vs US, meant Syria's fate was caste. So we did what we always do - fund weapons, destruction and destabilise a nation. See Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya etc forthe same sorry story.
Libya is interesting, as Gaddafi was looking to launch an African currency and make the world pay for African oil and African Colbolt in this new African currency rather than in dollars and francs. He didn't last long after that.
