Thomas Frank - Head Coach

So we could employ you to be manager, have us around the relegation zone but it's fine - let's give you a load of time because once upon a time a legendary manager had a poor first season.

It's pretty pointless comparing eras anyway, modern football is completely different in demands and expectations. But forgetting that, the manager has to show something for the club to see that progress will be made and the evidence of that right now is a little lacking.....
This for me too. I'm all for giving a manager time, but looking clueless has to stop at some point.

Did Ange need to go? We were doing better at this stage last season under him. I think if he stayed, we probably get less away points. But we almost certainly get more home points and are doing better overall.

22 PL losses last season suggests there is no evidence for this assertion.

I’ve no interest in whether we he had more points at this stage last season; league campaigns last 10 months, and the reality overall is that the league campaign last year was a disgrace. We were terrible to watch (that seems to have faded from memories quickly), naive beyond belief.

If we are playing like we are now next Christmas then it’ll perhaps be time to start thinking about the manager’s position. Until then, he needs time and players.

His first season we finished 18th in the league. While finishing 3rd the season before. He was given time to shape his team.
You lot would have sacked him before january.

Listen mate. I wasn't there. I was born in 1967. So take the following as just knowing your history. The reason Sir Bill retainedf everyone's trust was largely because of both his embedded history at the club already plus the fact we went on a good run at the end of that season, as well as the fact he was laying down a style of football (first started by Arthur Rowe) which was absolutely Tottenham, and which is recognised as our DNA.

Again, you appear to miss the point when you say 'you lot', so I'll say it plainly using Frank's situation. If he showed a sign of clear identity with regrads to how we play, or if his philosophies on 'risk' which he has expressed verbally matched up with intent in both how we attack and the way we play, then I'd be delighted to take some on the chin. Thing is, we're getting chinned drifting between a rock and a hard place....

Frank has an issue with time. We have a squad that has been to some extent rebuilt and painfully. It has taken a few years since the Poch era. However if he cannot work with it and make us look like a team that can create chances after 4 months in the job then we have issues. We have injuries, yes. However that doesn't change what our eyes can see. The players look rattled. The fans are uneasy.

With all of that in mind, and not knowing how this new board functions, anything could happen and I wouldn't be massively shocked and or annoyed if they made a brutal decision right now.

My really big concern is that I have absolutely no idea what Frank is trying to do - unless his only aim is to pump inaccurate crosses into the box.

He has not had anywhere near enough time. BUT he has had enough time to at least get an occasional flavour of what his Spurs team will be about. The only flavour I’m seeing is getting pumped at home by anyone and everyone, with virtually no fight, no invention and calamitous individual errors served up by the bucket load.

I see a lot of stats offered and comparisons with the previous incumbent being raised. Here's some interesting numbers for you...

...on Nov 30th 2024 we were 8th with 19 points
GD was 14 with 27 for and 13 against

This season we are 10th with 18 points
GD is 5 with 21 for and 16 against

Not that I actually care that much (the fact we are currently so poor to watch is of far greater concern) but the comparisons aren't that pretty right now if you want to suggest we are 'doing better'. Statistically we are doing worse, especially when it comes to GD. I've been told that we are 'improved defensively'. We are not. Take this as you wish. I am simply saying that I am being told we are a side who will take 'risks' going forward and that our defending is better when my eyes and the stats say the opposite.

p.s. at this stage last season we had Fraser Forster in goal, VdV and Romero were also both out, Maddison was out, Odobert was out, Richarlison was out. I believe Dragusin was also out.

As of today, we are without Maddison, Deki, Solanke, Dragusin
Wont be 10th once this round of fixtures is played

I think there's some selective amnesia regarding Sherwood.

People didn’t like his personality and that’s fine. I don’t really rate him as a pundit and he was never going to be successful long term as a football manager. But he did no better or worse than AVB who was worshipped on this forum for finishing in 5th place. There was definitely a feeling of mourning when he left and some were just never going to accept the next guy that came in.

Crosses and playing for corners seems to be the strategy. My main concern is what happens when the away form inevitably gets worse.

I can't deny I found him odious as I did Jose and Redknapp. Maybe there was some bias. Fair point brother.

Our team is not amazing, we don’t have any player that could get into the top 4 playing consistently. It’s where we are. However I would have hoped that the performances would be more encouraging, especially after the first game against PSG. I personally think he’s keeping the seat warm for a pochettino return. Not that I’m advocating anything like that.

I think so, the fans had turned and I think some of the players had as well.
The belief had gone, which is a pity as ange had something that this club really lacks, a proper sense of self and a belief in it.
We are a mess as a club.

Wild reading some of the stuff online this morning in general, I completely understand people questioning Frank and his tactics, but there’s a lot of widespread misremembering of people’s performances going on, especially Ange. Mostly I guess because he was the most recent to be here.

Absolutely mental the stuff people come out with and the nostalgia based ideas they attach to someone based on not liking the new person.

Scary stat alert

Ange won 2 homes game with us since the turn of the year in the league

Frank also only won 2 home games with Brentford in the same time

In the last 12 months with Spurs + Forest at home, Ange:

Won 3 Drawn 3 Lost 11 For 26 Against 38

In the same period with Brentford + Spurs, Frank:

Won 7 Drawn 5 Lost 10 For 33 Against 35

There’s no place like home…

We do seem to be i agree, i think we have had 8 managers [ including caretakers] in the last 6 years and some are now screaming they want yet ANOTHER one. We will never get where we ALL want us to be if we KEEP doing that. IMO

Not that it changes anything but that would mean Frank won 4 games last December (assuming you mean league games in the numbers)
That is exactly what he needs now
