Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

What about them. I've got the utmost respect for principled anti EU folk. Many weren't racist. That doesn't mean it wasn't a horrifically racist campaign.

It was a coalition of 52% of the population, so it had plenty of good and bad. Lexiters like me could never bear the stench of Farage and co, but they proved useful for getting numbers across the line at that particular juncture.

there was a referendum a few years ago and nobody was remotely interested.

Genuinely one of the worst run campaigns ever by the Lib Dems. Even now, a fair part of the population do not realise how undemocratic FPTP really is. Stability under incompetent people is no boon. Labour would have been wise to push the educational piece on voting reform but they've made eff all good decisions so far and I doubt that will change under Starmer.

I think the fear of the Lib Dems or the SNP controlling government spooked most people.

I think the British public also really prize being able to punish poor governments by completely wiping them out, whereas its harder to ensure someone is out of government when they are determined by negotiations rather than directly by votes

When you see the absolute brick show the SNP have been in charge off up is it wonder.

Its not smart from Labour now the Greens, SNP and PC have swarmed over their left flank. They need the - hold your nose for us or its them - vote
Problem is, as corbyn found out, voters don't want the left flank in government.
It's a protest vote, it's a different story in real elections.
Will be interesting if the centre right carry out their threat to vote reform.
nobody is willing to fill that gap, the tories are shot, Labour are wrecking their chances, so you have reform who are probably too far right for most in normal circumstances or fringe one policy parties that nobody in their right mind wants in government.

2p on basic rate of income tax in the budget being speculated. Apparently its the only move that raises near the amount needed without threatening a destruction of the economy (VAT rise would heap on inflation while tinkering around margins of tax policy with capital gaind etc will end up hitting various parts of the economy at the same time having a significantly adverse predicted impact.

Is that with the coinciding 2p reduction in NI though? So nothing changes for workers, only pensioners and landlords will end up paying more?

By the way, this has been happening in the past 7 days...never see this conflict and it's thousands upon thousands upon thousands of deaths talked about...

It's been widely reported in Australia for some time. I assumed if it was reported here it would have been far more extensive in Europe. It not being reported in America doesn't surprise me absolutely nothing in Sudan Trump wants so no reporting
