Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

If Carlsberg told fibs....
Hey that’s not allowed taqiya … don’t need to hide behind lies ever unlike some that are actually told to do so … you got to laugh.

I love this

It was reported that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: ‘You (i.e. Muslims) will fight against the Jews and you will gain victory over them. The stones will (betray them) saying: ‘O ‘Abdullah (i.e. slave of Allah)! There is a Jew hiding behind me; so kill him.’”1 This Hadith was reported by Al-Bukhari.

Surely I’m the liar right? Pure comedy

I mean do you want me to quote the Bible to you?

Can we go back to you being stranded in Kabul for a week lol. It's been a war zone since the Russian invasion of the 80s.

You can quote what you like…. But I think it’s more believable that we got stranded in Kabul than rocks coming to life and grassing up the Jews no? I’ll give you credit and assume that you agree.

But yes of course feel free to interrogate me on my experience.

I mean, both are likely made up. Equally likely.

It was actually horrific. It was around 1988, just about the time when Russia were leaving Afghanistan … we were in of all planes Aeroflot…. The run way still had shot down planes and if I remember some were still smouldering. We got escorted off the plane with guns pointed at us, but once at the airport, It was quite relaxed as we were the only passengers there. We were held there for half a day while they were trying to figure out what to do with us.

I remember the toilets had not been cleaned for a very long time and as soon as the door opened you were met by the loudest sound from swarms of flies … the stench was unbearable. But needs must.

Anyway they eventually took us in the cover of night in a coach to a central hotel in kabul. We were forced to sit head between our legs with the curtains drawn.

The hotel staff were very sympathetic and hospitable even though they could not offer much in terms of food. It was rice, naan and vegetable soup. They did get the occasional crisp packet for the kids. I remember the security constantly being on edge and arguing amongst themselves. We were sent to our rooms at 6 every night and the electricity would be cut and were ordered to draw the curtains.

Essentially the plane needed a part from all places Russia … it took around 5 days to arrive and 2 days to fix as they didn’t know when an engineer would be available. I just remember everyone cheering when they said that the plane was fixed and we would be boarding in the next hour or so. The wait seemed as if time was going backwards.

The general folk in and around the hotel were kind and were intrigued about India. I remember one chap asked my dad if we wanted to go to his house for dinner, but that idea was shot down.

All in all an unforgettable journey. I don’t know if there were eating pine nuts but many blokes were eating some sort of seeds

'They don't need to be' ...you mean they can't use the FSCS scheme.

Thanks for your long explanation of safeguarding.
This is quite simple for most folk. Most people would prefer the government as the ultimate backstop for their savings, and most people don't have more than 85k that needs protection (and if they do they just open another account with different institution).
That also negates the worry of 'what a bank might do with your money' ...my backstop is not with them. They could lose it all, it wouldn't matter.
Anything is possible with private companies, as we know. That's where the trust that they behave themselves comes in.
I don't really understand the point of all this. You won't use Revolut. Fine. But millions do and they are growing all the time. As i said they are a success story that our government policies are threatening to drive away.

Just being clear on the way they will 'guarantee your money' compared to the FSCS scheme...that's all.

Revolut are great at what they do...I'm sure they'll benefit as the government continue to loosen financial regulations (for better or worse, roll eyes)

i think to be honest, if you're in the position of worrying about the FSCS scheme, you are in a far more privileged position than most.

Not sure I'm worrying about it, probably the opposite tbh. Most people have some money in a bank account, so I'm not sure how I'm privileged :)...just benefiting

With Revolut being a UK company, why are they shying away from UK registered bank status?

They are not. They are in the process of obtaining one. They were granted a provisional license in July and are working through the process to become a bank in the UK.

Most people have their salary paid into a bank account which soon dissappears. I only have a couple of hundred quid left after a few days of being paid.

Yes they are. And it is not as secure as most other banks. Which again was the point.
They are mostly not using them, nor other similar platforms like Paypal, Stripe as a bank. They are using them to move money rapidly. Open banking environments mean you can have your bank, savings accounts and credit cards liked to your Revolut or Paypal apps and if you want to transfer money you can use Revolut to initiate the transfer from your bank, to a domestic or foreign beneficiary account in a matter of minutes and at a much more preferential cost and rate than traditional methods.

I know this and I've no idea why you are telling me this.
