Peter Charrington - Non-executive Chairman

His fan introduction

Dear Supporter,

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you following my recent appointment as Non-Executive Chairman of this great Football Club.

Many of you may have questions as to what my role entails and what it means in terms of how we run the Club moving forward.

Firstly, it’s important to point out that I am not entirely new to Spurs. I joined as a Non-Executive Director back in March and I have therefore already gained an understanding as to what this Club is all about.

Our Europa League victory in Bilbao demonstrated the impact of winning trophies and what it means to our fans both here and around the world. It’s something the Board and I want you all to experience on many more occasions.

I have had the pleasure of knowing the Lewis family for many years and can speak to how passionate Viv, Charlie and the family all are about seeing this Club truly reach its full potential.

I see my role as Non-Executive Chairman to be about empowering our teams at leadership level and throughout the organisation to deliver on our stated objective of long-term sporting success.

Over the last six months I have had the privilege of meeting the many talented people within our Club driving us forward every single day – both on and off the pitch. This includes our Head Coaches, Thomas and Martin, who have shared with me their drive to develop winning Men’s and Women’s teams. My focus is on providing them with all the necessary tools to create a winning culture, with the aim that this will translate to success on the pitch.

In Vinai, we have a CEO who is a fantastic leader and figurehead for our Club, and I will support him in delivering on our vision, developing talent within the organisation and ensuring supporters are at the heart of our decision-making.

In terms of you - our fans - I am extremely proud of the inclusivity of our Spurs family and how we as a Club engage with the various supporter groups that make up our rich, diverse, global fanbase. I am keen we listen to our fans and understand different perspectives from all sections of our support, and I look forward to meeting with our Fan Advisory Board for the first time in the coming months to learn more about what matters most to you.

I’ve attended various games and experienced the special atmosphere our fans create in the stadium first-hand, working with independent groups such as THFC Flags, who designed the incredible Tifo display we saw at last Tuesday’s Champions League game with Villarreal.

I look forward to sharing many more special occasions like these with you all in the years to come.

Peter

May all be just a smokescreen of words , many keep saying if the right offer comes in ENIC will sell but is there any actual evidence that the Tavistock Group ( Lewis Family) need to cash in on their original investment , they could hang on for years and still get a handsome return.

The handsome return is locked in already.

Publicly released words are just PR

What happens in 1-3 years , 1-10years is anyone's guess.
Owning a football club is romantic, Owning a football club is hard work,
Money talks, everyone has their price...
Etc etc

But is it hard work for the Lewis Family , Viv and Charlie are running a vast empire in charge of Tavistock Group and Vinai will be doing the day to day work for them at Spurs with Charrington keeping an eye on things, we might be a world famous football club but how do we compare in time and effort to run the club to the other investments at Tavistock.

I think you miss my point. I'm just saying any direction of travel is on the table.

Just to touch on the hard work bit.
Minions are doing most of the hard work bit at tavistock.
Footballs hard work doesn't come from business...it comes from dealing with the optics and emotional clientele.

'I look forward to meeting with our Fan Advisory Board for the first time in the coming months to learn more about what matters most to you'

You would have thought that after a Chairman of almost a quarter of a century departs, a new management structure announced and a return to Champions League football, and an ownership allegedly wanting to take the club to the "next level", he would want to meet the Fans Advisory Board sooner than the "coming months"

In fact you would think he would call a fans forum?

FAB meet four times a year , only just had the last meeting on 9th Sept with Vinai present who is responsible for the day to day running of the club so doubt they have that much more to discuss at the moment. Personally I find some of the things raised at FAB meetings a bit trivial, like this one for instance...

The FAB would also like to see more focus on the atmosphere at women’s matches which the Club agreed to add to the FAB women’s team subgroup agenda.

The first women's home match against WHU , a grand total of 1,735 turned up at Brisbane Road , not exactly sure what the club are supposed to do about the atmosphere at an empty stadium, let fans in free maybe , not sure many more would turn up.

PS There is a Fan Forum planned soon but Charrington not on the list to appear.

We’re delighted to invite you to apply for a place at our 2025/26 Fan Forum on Thursday 16 October, 6.30pm – 8pm, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As in previous years, supporters attending the event will have the opportunity to hear from a panel of senior Club representatives about the topics which matter most to fans. Appearing on the panel this year will be:

  • Vinai Venkatesham, CEO
  • Johan Lange, Technical Director
  • Thomas Frank, Men’s team Head Coach
  • Martin Ho, Women’s team Head Coach
  • Cristian Romero, Men’s team captain
  • Bethany England, Women’s team captain
  • Ben Davies, longest-serving current player

I wouldn’t think anyone involved in football club ownership/management at any level would ever want to meet a fans group.

True, I hope the club continue with the disdain that he had for them at least.
He never had disdain for the Trust and owners should not have disdain for their fans. He attended all the Club/Trust meetings. But once the Trust, under Kat and Martin, called for the Board to resign after the Super League stuff, then he stopped attending meetings, at least that’s how I remember it. Understandably so.

Levy did.
From the minutes looks like Levy attended two out of the eleven held whilst he was chairman, the main director involved was DMC. Lets not forget Fans Advisory Boards were only set up by Premier League clubs after pressure from the Government as it would be a requirement under the new football regulator that clubs consult fans.
As said I doubt many directors/owners relish the meetings, usual fan requirements , we want trophies, pay out massive transfer fees on the highest paid players but we don't want to pay high ticket prices. :)

I think he did, and I think they earned it.
