Spurs never won trophies under Levy wah wah wah

Bullet

Barry Daines
Levy and Spurs get criticised for not winning trophies, so I asked Gemini to give me this list of our semi-finals since the 'North London Cup' wherein 'the Arse were only runners up', in 91.

Somebody in the Levy thread said that the CHEATS Cheatski Cheating Chelsea did not hold us back during this period. Look at the evidence yourselves! CHEATS!
For the sake of my own sanity I had to look back at this run.

Disappointments in purple
Wins in orange
Generally we lost to clubs that were BIGGER THAN US at the time

And just look at the last 15 years since 2010, no purple

2024/25 UEFA Europa League: Bodø/Glimt WON then beat BIGGER THAN US Man Utd in the final
2024/25 EFL Cup: lost to BIGGER THAN US Liverpool
2021/22 EFL Cup: lost to CHEATS Chelsea
2020/21 EFL Cup: beat Brentford, lost to CHEATS Emirates Marketing Project in the final
2018/19 UEFA Champions League: beat Ajax, lost to BIGGER THAN US Liverpool in the final
2018/19 EFL Cup: lost on penalties to CHEATS Chelsea
2017/18 FA Cup: lost to BIGGER THAN US Manchester United [Muttley reminds me the ref should have sent off Valencia]
2016/17 FA Cup: lost to CHEATS Chelsea
2014/15 EFL Cup: beat Sheffield United then lost to CHEATS Chelsea in the final
2011/12 FA Cup: lost to CHEATS Chelsea
2009/10 FA Cup: a poor loss to Portsmouth (BIZARRE SLIP ON THE NEWLY LAID TURF)
2008/09 EFL Cup: beat Burnley but lost to BIGGER THAN US Manchester United on penalties in the final
2007/08 EFL Cup: beat BIGGER THAN US Arsenal then beat the CHEATS Chelsea in the final
2006/07 EFL Cup: lost to BIGGER THAN US Arsenal
2001/02 EFL Cup: beat the CHEATS Chelsea but annoyingly lost to Blackburn in the final [Muttley reminds me the ref should have sent off Hughes]
2000/01 FA Cup: lost to BIGGER THAN US Arsenal
1998/99 FA Cup: lost AET to Saudi Sportswashing Machine because the ref didn't give Dabizas' handball
1998/99 EFL Cup: beat Wimbledon then beat Leicester in the final
1994/95 FA Cup: crumbled vs Everton
1992/93 FA Cup: lost to BIGGER THAN US Arsenal
1991/92 EFL Cup: lost AET to Nottingham Forest
1990/91 FA Cup: beat BIGGER THAN US Arsenal then beat Forest in the final

Summary: WIN BIGGER CHEATS CHEATS BIGGER CHEATS BIGGER CHEATS CHEATS CHEATS poor BIGGER WIN BIGGER CHEATS BIGGER annoying WIN crumbled BIGGER poor WIN. Not bad!

People that say they want their Tottenham back need to realise that from 1980 - 2001 we had only won 2 more trophies than we have won under Enic. The majority of fans who claim they want their Tottenham back were probably not even born when we were consistently winning things back in the 60’s and 70’s. I am not going to count the joint charity shields.

If you're following spurs for highs of winning trophies you're following the wrong club.
If you're following any club for the high of winning trophies you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

I'd wager the average spurs and palace fans were happier about winning the lesser cups than Liverpool fans were about winning the league.
It means more to us, it's a feeling few fans of the bigger clubs will understand.

These are inconvenient facts ignored by most fans and media.

I expect it's an age thing but the FA cup always seemed a massive trophy to me, it was a day when it appeared the whole nation was watching. The Palace final was the first I've watched for ages.

This. When the Henry/Viera side won their last trophy, an FA Cup, I asked my goon mate why he wasn't celebrating, and he was genuinely non-plused. "Once you've won a few", he said, "you get used to it."

Imagine never (really) winning and then some financial dopers come along and steal a real genuine journey away from you as well. Chelsea and City caught the helicopter to the top of Everest.

I actually quite enjoy that our cups are spaced out, makes them a bigger dealwhen they happen. Okay maybe a little less spaced out would be nice! I also enjoy the fact that every now and again, we play some of the best looking football in the world. Imagine being an Everton fan, have they ever played attractive football, even when they were winning leagues?

And Everton were arguably bigger than us when Levy took over.

Similar sized. Spurs and Everton were both part of the ‘Big Five’ in the 80s and both underachieved in the 90s and early 2000s. But I wouldn’t say Everton were bigger than us.

I take the point about trophies arguably meaning more and feeling more special the less frequently you win them, look at the outpouring of emotion when Palace won the FA cup for example. And yeah winning the EL would have meant more to us than United fans who win more frequently than we do, but they still would have been buzzing to win it. And I’m not going to diminish the value of trophies just because it fits a narrative, I was gutted when we lost the super cup final. I want to win trophies every year. Would it become less special? Probably, but id take that over winning them every 17 years or even every 5 years. Just ask Arsenal fans how desperate they are to win things. And conveniently they’ve started talking how we used to under Poch highlighting how no team has amassed more points in the last 3 seasons than them and how consistent they are. It’s exactly the same playbook we used to refer to 😂 they can’t gloat about their stadium anymore as it’s circa 20 years old so they talk about consistency and past glories.

Great data and I hope you had a beer on a Friday night whilst compiling it.

It's interesting that your list only calls out the referee once. You seem to forget the assault Antonio Valencia did in the 17/18 first half when Jose was in charge of Utd. Antony Taylor should have swung that game in our favour in that first half by doing what was right. An ageing Valencia did it 3 times that season on Dele and Sonny. He stayed on the pitch 3 times.

For the Blackburn final, I was as angry as I'd ever been with a referee (lol, which says a lot for me!!!). I watched them drop Mark Hughes back into midfield and he should have had about 8 yellows in that game. We would have won that final but for the referee.

Both those referees know deep down they cheated their profession by ignoring the clear laws of the game. As always happens, referees constantly change football history with their incompetence. I would wager a bet that we would have had 2 more trophies but for those 2 referees.

No different from the Moscow Croatia first half and the Italy Euro's final for England. I think we would have lost to France in the final but would have at least made a WC final. We should have been Euro champs in 2021, but for the UEFA refs.

I think City had a similar profile as us until the money, Chelsea were the subject of a music hall joke upto the 70's and lost their appropriate nickname "The Pensioner"

We were a much bigger club than Emirates Marketing Project until they won the lottery. People have short memories. They were the quintessential yo-yo club for much of the 90s/2000s.

Thanks for reminding me. I've added notes to that effect.

When you consider we had to beat CHEATS City and CHEATS Cheatski and BIGGER THAN US Liverpool and BIGGER THAN US United and BIGGER THAN US Arsenal to get to the semi final to get to the final to beat those same teams AND ALSO BEAT THE REFEREE, it is amazing we did so well.

This is why I am an advocate of VAR and properly applying the rules, we got stiffed so many times.
We all remember the times we've been robbed e.g. Mendes scoring at Old Trafford from half way, and the time Gomes put the ball down to take a freekick and Nani just ran up and knocked it in the net. Just pure nonsense.

Wasn't Higuain another offside goal given against Juve before VAR was introduced? This might be selective memory but I had a feeling we would have gone through on goal diff over the 2 legs but for that incident. Poch wasn't the luckiest to be fair with refs, and Mike Dean even goaded him about not winning only for PGMOL to do the big cover up and protect their man.
