Squad

And sell Davies, Dragusin, Bentancur and Tel? Or do you envisage 10 players we cant name for Europe?

I'm just wondering how to fit all these new players into the squad without selling anyone, because that would just leave us with not having enough cover again.

Looking forward to next week's episode of Gold & Guest where they complain about a lack of a pathway to the first team for the youngsters after this week's ranting about not making enough signings.

3 are in the last year. If they don't get a new contract can see them being sold in jan.

I'd expect some news on Bentancur soon. We can't really let that drag on too long. Bissouma is done and Davies will probably leave next summer.

It's an issue that won't really be resolved until 2027, when Gray and Bergvall can be registered as club trained. Hopefully we'll have a few more following in their footsteps.

Yeah, we're at that interesting point of inflexion. Alfie Devine and Dane Scarlett will be club trained next season if they're still around. We have the 2 lads you mention dropping into the B-list and Davies leaving. So some spaces freed up.

I found it interesting that Max Robson was not just arbitrarily named last year as a club trained. This year we have Mathew Craig who qualifies and could have just had his name put in the squad. Even though they might not be in the bigger picture plans, why would you just not name them?

Its just a perspective not having enough players. The rules are designed to maintain 25 men squads - 2 players for every position with 3 GKs. Not having enough depth really means not trusting members of your 2nd string. 30-35 man squads arent realistic

Dorrington NOT included in Aberdeen's EL squad even though he is in the first team.

Gutted for him, but sort of glad they aren't over using him.

hope tel takes it the right way. its not about tel v odobert more than the fit to play frank's system

also, don't we get to re-pick players in the knock out phase? if thats the case then (1) injuries and (2) performing well in the league and other cups is his second shot.

As I said above, here's the challenge. You can only make 3 changes from this named squad. Surely Kulu gets one of these slots if he returns through Dec / Jan and it all looks good for him. That leaves 2 spaces. Say we sign another top drawer player. That's 1 left. Then if we're forced to change injured players like we have done then there is no space for Tel again.

I just think these permutations and combinations of events will mean it will be very hard for Tel to get back in, even if he's smashing it.

We may look for a loan in January depending on how things pan out and who we bring in. If we revisit the Savinho/Lookman type situations for example.

Who do you anticipate he would come in for if there are no long term injuries?

You have to question the rationale in buying in the first place.

Not to forget all the cover we should have added that must be addressed in January. Another LB, CB, CM, LW is a bare minimum.
I would be shocked if those positions are all addressed in January, besides you will have better options in the summer. Also, most players of quality will simply not to want to move 6 months before the WC. Unless of course they had been "riding the pine" for most of the first part of this season

I'm not sure I could get Tel in.

I guess we would need to work backwards from what a UEFA squad would look like with a fully fit squad with the obvious exception of Madds. Then make the assumptions of no signings.

Our current qualifying players for the 4 association trained spots are Davies, Gray, Spence, Johnson and Solanke. One of them is already taking a List A place so that means I would be keen to upgrade Davies with Dragusin. He forms part of our main quartet of centre halves and you don't lose Davies's off the pitch influence anyway by doing that.

I'd then be looking at that List A and making sure Kulu is in there. That's probably not good news for Odobert to be fair. He'd join Tel as one of the the players missing out.

If Madds is not fit for Feb 1st but fit sometime after then it gets interesting. That would not be good news for Gray in my opinion.

Another stupid loan then. If you can’t get in an Aberdeen team then i don’t think you are going to make it to the top level imo.
