Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

So people who fast are uncivilised now.

Wow.

Anyway you said you made them take leave. And now you say choice. What I was calling you out on. And it's clear you shifted your story when challenged.

Pretty clear to see you will lie on a forum for clout. Which was my main point. And it's been made and proven.
Fasting is really good for you. Scientifically, it is proven to force the body to cleanse itself by burning excess sugar and fat in the blood stream and brain stimulation and growth occurs. It is though this to be a natural response to increase the chances of finding food (i.e. from back in caveman days). Fasting boosts life expectancy. It also isnt something that is unique to Islam. People in this country that identify as Christian have largely abandoned strict adherence to Christian tradition. As i was brought up in a traditional Catholic family, Catholics are supposed to fast during lent, particularly on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during lent. And Catholics are also expected to abstain from eating meat on all Fridays (which is where "Friday fish and chips" comes from). Advent was traditionally a similar period of penitence in the run up to Christmas. To be clear, I'm not religious but fasting and abstinence is generally a feature of all major religions in some form. If you can be ar** to follow them strictly.

Yeah, intermittent fasting is definitely part of lots of ketogenic diets. Isn't it something like 15 hours of no food before your body goes into ketosis and starts burning fat? Isn't looking after your mitochondria something to do with optimum health as well?

I think it's very healthy. 1 meal a day feels much more natural than 3 once you try it. Breakfast and lunch are just pretty pointless. 1 meal a day is what keeps the Rolling Stones spritely after all.

Different to Ramadan type fasting, I would really struggle with no coffee/drinks through the day though.

As I said in my other post. I gave them a choice - they didn't have to fast and they didn't have to take leave. But they couldn't fast and work.

Expert organisations such as Croner and Make UK have both confirmed that we are not required to bend to religious requests, merely show that we have listened to and considered them.
Serious question and curiousity - what would have happened if someone chose not to eat or drink during their working day?
Disciplinary action? If so, on what grounds?

I've fasted for 19 hours a day with no food or water with ease. I've maintained a high perofmring job. A family. And fitness. But there is nothing wrong with hating fasting as an act of worship. That's your choice. But mistreating employees is disgusting.

I worked in a company where 4 people fasted during Ramadan one year and they all had sick days over the course of the period they fasted. May not be connected but it must be brutal in the summer months. Mandating that you can’t fast is a bit weird though, and wrong.

When I've had people fast as they have less time to go and eat and less toilet breaks they end up being productive and sometimes even more productive. Obviously some people can get sick. That would be due to poor planning for their fast. I've got a decent diet plan I stick to and don't really feel it so much

I must admit I used to be very skeptical/critical of fasting but I have friends that do intermittent fasting and they all swear by it. I’m not sure if I have the mental toughness and will power to do it as I think about food 24/7

Think intermittent fasting is very simple if you’re an office worker, I’ve been doing it for a few years, but if you’re a manual labourer it’s a different story. No idea how you lay bricks or be a hod carrier for example without having a decent breakfast?

Some of them do it high and half cut. They're made of different stuff.

Not sure i agree. I'll never eat before playing football because it feels restrictive. You can carb load the night before

Your body adjusts about in 2 or 3 days and you can never imagine how you used to eat 2 or 3 times a day

It’s completely different :tearsofjoy:

Not getting too full before sport is a different ball game to not eating since say 8pm the previous night then running up and down ladders with 10kg of bricks on your shoulder all morning!

Simply put, I do the basic intermittent fasting (8pm last food, 1pm following day next food)as I’ve said, but if at the weekend I have something a bit manual to do around the house in the morning and I’ve not eaten then I’m shaking by an hour in.
