*** Tottenham Hotspur v Nottingham Forest ***

Funny I could have sworn you wrote:

If we could defend well, do the simple things well, even playing Ange's system we'd be a decent side. For example, we barely contest throw ins. Other sides make it hard for us to get possession off of a throw in. We don't. Or...we are easy to get at down the flanks. We press - but with no regard to where we are leaving spaces. We don't press with any tactical awareness - trying to force the opposition to play into areas we want. We give away free headers, time and again.

None of this comes from committing men forward. We conceded form a corner today for example - how could that be related to the way we attack? In short, we are decent in possession, the 5th highest scorers in the league. Whilst committing men forward won't ever allow us to be Forest levels tight at the back, we could still eradicate half of the goals we concede with a better out of possession shape, and coaching.

Vic also didn't cover himself in glory tonight, two goals he might have saved.

What i said in the posts you quoted do not contradict eachother.

What i said in the post you quoted does not contradict what I have said subsequently :s

We'll be back.

The goons have a decent synthesis of Ange and Nuno. Where they falter is going to far towards Nuno possibly. At times too defensive. It is like Arteta started with Guardiola's blueprint (which is a better version of Ange's setup), and he tried to mix it with a low block - right idea imo. But the goons don't quite get the balance right thankfully.

If a manger can get the both - attacking committal football - plus have the plyers sprint back and take up a strong block, I think it is possibly the most optimal setup. Ange in possession + Nuno out of possession.

Apparently he said “our football was outstanding” in the post-match interview…
"The flip side of that is that the frustrating bit is it’s not because of the way we are playing because our football today was very similar to the Frankfurt game at home which was another game we should have won."

We started too slowly. Made mistakes and found ourselves two goals behind. That let Forest do what they like to do most, sit with low block and counter.
They kept a narrow defence and so any crosses we tried were easily dealt with. We had two wingers who tried hard but each have no consistent end product. It’s likely this will come over time but it’s not there yet.
So we huffed and puffed but Forest were happy with it as they were doing what they do best.
It was disappointing overall and I know most people don’t care about results in the league now but I do. I want us to win every match we play. That’s what we should be going out there with the intent to do. That’s if we want to be a serious club.
Oh well another match ticked off and on to another likely loss at Anfield next.

Forest touched the ball in our box four times in the entire game. 4 times.

Forget everything else that is an absolutely mind boggling stat. How the hell do you lose to a team that has four touches in your box all night????

Here's the truth.
We will learn nothing new about what's gone wrong between now and the end of the season.
We're playing for two matches right now and hopefully a third.
We're balancing keeping players on the bubble of fitness versus trying playing some into form (like Deki).
The entire fudging club is in this float-state whereby we know we'll stay up, we know it has been an awful season resulkts-wise, we know all the issues which have got us here, and we also know that we are 180 minutes from a European Final.
These league games are going to be a tough outing if we don't understand that reality.
My biggest fear was phoning it in.
If anyone can genuinely say they felt we phoned it in tonight and fudged that game off, I'll call them a liar. We made stupid mistakes (haven't seen that this season), experienced some bad luck in front of goal (what a shock!) and missed a couple of absolute sitters (wow-wee shocker!)...

Simple. Because we are crap at defending and have a really bad keeper, plus forewards who couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo.😪

These stats are pretty staggering.

Forest have the lowest percentage of possession in the PL 39.9% and one of the lowest in PL history.

They have a way of playing this way and it's working for them.

We on the other hand have a manager who has made these two comments tonight.

"I thought we deserved to win"

"It's not easy have to rotate and be at the top of your game"

This from the man who said "When our injured players return, you will se a different Tottenham".

He's out of his depth, and by quite a way. I could go on, but we all know how this is going to end.
