Eddie Izzard vs BoJo.........at least it would be amusing
Eddie izzard vs the moog.Eddie Izzard vs BoJo.........at least it would be amusing
I find it so hypocritical and funny at the same time in seeing the Tory press laying into the current excuse for a 'government' over all this whole Windrush debacle when the same fine example of the right wing press where screaming 'bloody foreigners deport the lot of em' or words to that effect from the tops of their front pages for decades.
On the 30 year thing, some 'simple folk' and I use that not in a derogatory way in the slightest, are not as savvy and relaxed with bureaucracy and dont want to poke the Rottweiler aka the UK immigration department especially in the current political climate. They rightly fear they may end in the likes of Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre. No holiday camp!
All I want from the leader of a party is a bit of political will. Corbyn is a bit of a divvy in some ways, but I honestly think his heart is in the right place and he'd have a good go at implementing Labour's manifesto, which boils down to taxing rich people more and spending it on stuff the other 90% of people in the country need. They probably won't be able to get it all done, but it's a move in the right direction imo.
For the Tories, it's just a continuing erosion of stuff the country needs until anyone poor is relying on charity, that's the direction of travel imo. No thanks. The fact that so many of them are intensely dislikeable is a side issue, I could cope with that if they actually gave a sh1t about people and had the policies to match.
If you are looking for a political party where the parliamentary branch isn't chock full of qunts, you'll never vote for anyone.
Sadly it also makes Corbyn for me unelectable! Can’t stand any of the current runners and riders.
Jeremy is probably a lovely bloke to have a cuppa with. And Theresa would great if I was looking for German language lessons.
Lammy is such a dingdong, you actually kind of suspect he wrote that himself. Bernie Grant was a proper black radical
No, didn’t even cross my mind, it’s clearly the illiterate rambling of a racist clam.
Lammy isn’t trying to be a “black radical”, he’s just disgusted at the lack of humanity being shown by so many.
I just want to know when there is going to be a Parliamentary debate on the Tory racism towards non-whites. It can be led by MPs Boris Johnson, Anne Marie Morris and Oliver Letwin, who have all made racist remarks as MPs. The debate could move on to the institutionalised racism of the 2014 immigration act (something that only a few MPs voted against, Corbyn being among them). Then they could talk about the many racist remarks made by Tory councillors and activists. Finally, Dianne Abbot could stand up, teary eyed, and detail all the racist abuse she has received (far more than any other MP) from right-wing Tory voters, perhaps getting a round of applause from the benches opposite.
Won't happen though, because the BBC etc. are far more concerned with the Labour anti-Semitism problem, which comes down to a few cranks in a membership of over 500,000. Yet the policies of Corbyn have not led to any Jewish people being put into detention centres, losing their jobs, not able to return from abroad back home to this country, denied NHS treatment, having to report weekly to the police etc. That only applies to Theresa May and black people.
Racism in immigration has been embedded since we joined the EEC in 1973. On principle immigration should be solely based on skills and personal relations (spouses). Then we have a grown up debate about quotas. But nationality should have nothing to do with. The sooner we can recalibrate that, the better
Abbot was uncharacteristically impressive across the media yesterday
I agree to an extent. I said in an earlier post that under Blair, things got tougher for non-EU migrants due to them wanting to appear tough on immigration, as they had no control over migrants from the EU. But it really got ugly with May as Home Secretary and the immigration act 2014 has led directly to the problems being reported now. They were warned then about the people this could hurt, but they didn't care.
Yes - the creating a 'hostile environment' thing goes to Alan Johnson's time as Home Secretary, but May was definitely more evil. But it was a culture built up over 40 years of white Europeans good, black and brown people from the Commonwealth bad.
If there is a positive of leaving the EU, it could be that immigrants are treated fairly across the board. That's not going to happen with politicians like May and Rudd though, imo -- unless by fair, we mean equally sh1t for everyone.
I really hope the tide will turn and we can move away from government by Daily Mail editorials.
