It's war! Relations between Spurs and Man United sour over chase for Zaha

The two clubs are already at loggerheads over Tottenham's controversial signing of Ezekiel Fryers

Most wanted: Zaha is being chased by Premier League elite
Charlie Crowhurst
Sir Alex Ferguson and Daniel Levy are going to war again this week in a bitter battle for Crystal Palace and England starlet Wilfried Zaha, writes the Sunday People.

Manchester United boss Fergie has now made an official move for the Eagles kid, but Palace supremo Steve Parish is refusing to talk to the Old Trafford giants.

And Ferguson will be furious to discover that Parish will meet Tottenham supremo Levy tomorrow to thrash out Zaha’s future.

He is already at loggerheads with Levy over the controversial deal to sign United old boy Ezekiel Fryers via a short stay in Belgium with Standard Liege.

United are threatening to go to the Premier League over the transfer – claiming Levy’s ‘fingerprints’ were all over the move that saw the defender join Spurs at the second attempt.

Now the prize is Zaha as the pair go head to head again. Ferguson is desperate to land him but Spurs are willing to sign him and leave him at Palace for the rest of the season, possibly backed up by sending a loan player or two to Selhurst Park.

Conspiracy theory: Fryers joined Spurs just months after leaving United for Liege

Levy hopes his negotiating skills can out-smart Ferguson, with insiders whispering that United are fuming because Parish has blanked their approach in the past few days.

United may also let him go back to Palace on loan but Ferguson would prefer to get him into his squad right away.

The Zaha deal will not just come down to money, but how it is packaged – and ideally with him helping out Palace for the rest of the season.

Re: Zaha...hahaha - if this move comes off

I think buying young players and loaning them straight back to the club is a great way to ensure that the player doesn't get unsettled and enables them to keep on progressing without seeing bench time. If we offered the same as United but loaned the player back to the club (and perhaps paying his ages throughout that period) then you can see why Palace would be more willing to incline - they keep their best player for the rest of the season and don't have to think about bringing someone in to replace him until the summer.

Haha could you imagine if this happened after the Fruers deal? Would fudge United fudge off the ****s. If this is true, I like that we're going after young players after the signings of Holtby and Fryers - good for the long-term future of the club (financially as well).

Re: Zaha...hahaha - if this move comes off

I've seen very little of Zaha, is he another over hyped English player or is he the real deal?

Re: Zaha...hahaha - if this move comes off

Fergie ain't wrong about Fryers. We were a bit naughty. Would that have happened if HR was still here? I did not like the cosy relationship he had with Fergie.
I am glad Fergie has started a war against us. He feared us in the past when we outplayed them for long periods of games but got beaten every time.
But now I think he is properly frit.

I've only seen him a few times but he looks like a very good dribbler with an eye towards heading towards the goal, pretty rapid as well

Re: Zaha...hahaha - if this move comes off

Seems to have the ego of Mario Balotelli as well.

Guy I work with is a Palace ST holder and has been for nearly 30 years, so he has seen a lot of quality talent come through, he says by far Zaha is the best he has ever seen

hes from my area and guys that know him, used to play with him or watch him regularly say he is unreal. ive only seen him play a few times and im not convinced

Ive seen him on tv twice before and he has some skills on him, if the guy I know who watches him every week says he has huge potential ill go with his verdict over what Ive seen

That is a ringing endorsement to be fair but you do have to factor in the level of opposition. That is a lot of money to spend on a kid. I really hope Zaha is all he is hyped up to be as I'm sure that money can be put to better use elsewhere.

The fact that Utd are sniffing around too is probably another indication of his potential I guess.

We don't exactly have a great track record in signing players from Palace. Bostock, Routledge...Armstrong!

He got a rough ride, the lad had to come in and replace Klinnsman, he did have a good scoring record at Spurs..

Re: Zaha...hahaha - if this move comes off

Sounds like a good deal if we can convince him to come to us. I haven't seen him play, only seen youtube videos, but he seems talented. Has some real skills and pace, never a bad combination.

Those of you who have watched him more (or know people who do) what do you think his weaknesses are? From what I've seen he doesn't seem to strike the ball all that well and he seems very selfish. The selfish bit doesn't bother me that much, he's young and very skillful up against players who aren't the best defenders in the world. The ball striking thing would bother me a bit more if true. Always a worry with that kind of "Brazilian dribbler" type player that there's going to be a lot of flair and not as much substance. I could easily be wrong about that part of his game though.

Seems like the kind of deal that would be well worth making either way. Young, talented, English, will have a sell on value even if he doesn't make it. The kind of deal Levy seems to love and I think AVB likes too. Probably comes down to if we can convince Zaha himself that moving to us is the right thing for us, knowing that clubs like United and Arsenal are likely to be in there as well won't make that part easy.

Re: Zaha...hahaha - if this move comes off

Never seen him play - what's his strengths and where would he play? Is he the sort of player who would play right wing in AVB's preferred 4-3-3 formation? Bale is made for that formation but am not convinced Lennon is unfortunately

Doesnt score than many goals really as below shows, not that many assists either

P25 Goals 5 Assists 4 Shots 39

Re: Zaha...hahaha - if this move comes off

I'm not convinced. 10m for a Championship player? He much was Cazorla?

I think Arsenal set the benchmark price for fast, tricky Championship players when they paid £12m for Oxlade-Chamberlain
