Disagree. For the very reasons described, the outcome is often hard to gauge depending on the players involved/acting, etc...I thought given the current way the game is officiated, Benny was lucky. I suppose my hypocrisy here is that I still thought Ade's awkward challenge in the first derby this season was a yellow and a warning, no more, but Cazorla's theater made sure he went right off.
 
i prefer tackles to be judged by intent and potential outcome than just the actual outcome.

thing is you can't penalize the guy for losing the ball in order to avoid a rash tackle
 
It was a silly tackle to make - there was abslutely no need for it. The ball was nowhere near the danger areas.

Luckily Zabaleta didn't make a meal out of it, because that could easily have been a red if the ref was in the right/wrong mood.
 
He was at fault for Defoe's goal, he was running the wrong way and left Kompany exposed (although as has been well shown, Kompany should have showed him down the line).

Weren't his fault. City had the ball, he was getting forward because he was there only width down that side. Holtby did very well to get the ball and you can credit Defoe for exploiting the space.

Defoe had a fair bit of work to do after receiving the ball too.

Pretty sure one of your photos popped up on my facebook feed that showed you standing over about 5 opponents laying in agony on the pitch...was that one a solid tackle? ;)
 
I think one of the reasons for such sportsmanship is the fact that Zabaletta is also a fullback known to make the odd rash (but not malicious) challenge.

I often see him make tackles that would have been fine a few years ago but can easily be misconstrued by modern refs. Nice consistency from him though. It's the players that tackle hard and can't take them back that really bother me.
