Your controversial Spurs views

I hate Terry Venables - most overrated manager this club has ever had! He won 1 FA Cup and finished 8th in the league with a side that included England's two best players, and a lot of very, very players, and yet is lauded as some sort of hero! Con man and media darling (remind you of anyone??)

Errr... he finished 3rd, didn't he? When we were broke! Signed no players that season and no players during 90/91 and won the FA Cup with only about 15 players! If it hadn't been for Scholar, we would not have had to sell Waddle and would have comfortably challenged for the title/double in 90/91.

I don't rate Luka, its funny that people rate him so highly, but I see an average player that doesn't excel at anything (apart from passes with the outside of his foot). I certainly don't see a 40m player.

Will never understand this. I know it's a thread for controversial views, but that is just insane.

Quite possibly the single most bizarre post in this thread.

I do not agree with you in the slightest, but you do make a point that many non-Spurs supporting mates of mine make. Next season (if he's here) watch him closely. He's the sort of player that you don't realise how good he is or what he brings to the team until you watch him properly.

Huddlestone is the mos underrated footballer around, and actually one of the best technical players at the club

i think we ca survive without VDV

i think we played a more cohesive and goal incentivsed team the year VDV was not with us and we scored more and got more points when VDV was not started at the SS next to the main CF

i very much like the wonky

i like modric as a left midfield playmaker / midfielder

I like bale as a marauding overlapping leftback

i like bale as a wing forward and a CF playing of the channel

i think sandro should be the first name on the team sheet

i dont think Gomes is that good a goal keeper

I thought harry redknapp did a great job.

I thought Jol lost the dressing room

I think Kaboul is overrated

i think BAE is potentially in the top 5 or 6 left backs in the league , easy.

before ledley king significantly lost his legs i thought he should play Holding midfield

I rated taarabt REALLY highly

i thought ghaly should have been given a second chance after the shirt throwing incident

i think charlie ie better defensively than walker

i thought, at the time, that vinny samways was world class

i wouldnt want mario gomez anywhere near tottenham

i think overall levy has done a very good job.

at one point i thought that routledge was going to surpass lennon

I hated Ginola, rarely got his head up at least 3 times in a game he would cut inside and hit the stand rather than centre to an unmarked player

Gio is overrated

Taarabt was and still is extremely overrated

Gross is a much better manager than most give him credit for. Wrong man at wrong place at the wrong time.

He also said in defeat there will be an echo of glory. No, losing is losing. It should never be acceptable or glorious.
No he didn't. That was Bill Nicholson, and the full quote was:

"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."

And again, we disagree, 'cos I for one think Nicholson was spot on. I love the fact we disagree, 'cos it means we're on topic for this thread! Although I'm finding it difficult to contribute any more than others are already chipping in with now.

Blanchflower said: "Football is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom"

we're both wrong, we finished 10th.....which makes my point even more valid. He was a bluffer!!

No criticism of the player, but Blanchflower's quote about the game being about glory is a loser's quote. There is no glory in losing.

The quote is

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and foremost about winning. It's nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It's about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

He's saying it's not just about winning it's about winning with style - that's not a loser's quote, quite the opposite

I agree his is a little bit overrated. Doesn't have enough impact in the big games and doesn't get anywhere near enough assists to be compared to the likes of Xavi or Iniesta.

1. Walker was the weakest player in last year's first XI .

2. VDV was the second weakest player in last year's first XI.
