From his perspective, coming back to Spurs with his tail between his legs would mean a) admitting he failed at Real Madrid, and failure is not something a footballer usually takes well, and b) coming back to a club, a fanbase and a chairman he thought he'd seen the back of a year earlier. Would he really relish the thought of returning to fans he knows still harbour resentments over his attempts to move, a chairman he feels broke his promises in the summer of 10/11, and a manager that isn't remotely like the 'arm around the shoulder' Harry Redknapp?
