WHY the summer window has been a success

We won't know if we've overpaid until we find out what his value on the pitch is.
If he turns out to be the difference between winning or drawing those 3 or 4 games a season then I would say he is worth it.
Only Time will tell.

Saw this earlier on FB. Not looking too bad.

Everyone keeps looking at it this way ... not sure, perhaps for some no CL cups, yes.

I could also see the wide players come in and we play Eriksen/Lamela more central.

The obvious comparison in Mane (who btw, is also inconsistent, has discipline problems, i.e. 6 red cards as a wide player).

Based on that comparison, we haven't overpaid, and I suspect Mane is on much higher wages as well.

My only take on this is that we have seen that he does not trust Carroll or Winks to be the understudy to Dembele. So part of me thinks that maybe Sissoko can play that position? or mix it up with Ali? another driving force through the middle?

Yes yes, admit it, you've been click-baited by the title...except I will now try to detail WHY this transfer window has been an unqualified success (especially if compared to others in our recent past.)

Let's first of all recognize the TRUE significance of what happened between 10pm and the 11pm deadline last night.
For the first time ever, Daniel Levy gave up the ghost, gave in and paid the asking price for Sissoko. Bear in mind, this deal had been around for some time and Levy (knowing the player wanted Spurs) thought he could 'Do A Daniel' and wind the price down as the clock wound down too. Ashley wouldn't budge. Levy was left to either 'win' as he usually does (i.e. not back down) or sigh, admit 'defeat' and give the manager (in this case Pochettino) what they wanted. This is enormous. IS 30 million too much for Sissoko? Absolutely! In reasonable money, he is a 15 to max 20 million player at most. Thank Manchester, Roman and Sky for this horror hike.

As for the player, look, he is an excellent addition squad-wise. First of all, aside from Poch liking him, do you not think Hugo has been asked what his take on the man and his character are? Secondly, aside from Dembele, we do not have anyone who has the power, strength and speed to simply get the ball deep and drive up the field with it. When the Moose doesn't play under Poch, the entire side suffers, and as such, it is vital we have someone who plays like him so as we never, ever miss that brute presence. Wanyama is a fine player but different. Sissoko is a driver, and for me (laugh as you wish) on form he reminds me of YaYa (yeah yeah ugh if you wish). This means that the likes of Christian, Erik and Dele can benefit from his bullwork and the space it creates. Big stuff, very important.

The other great thing about this window is that aside from N'Koudou (who most of us have only seen on youtube) every other signing is an upgrade on who we have let go (I personally wanted to keep Mason but we can see why he was sold to Hull as Sissoko was always on the table) and you can finally see a proper squad of players with two strong for every position, yet enough room in the squad for youth to get a chance too.

Would it have been nice if Isco had decided not to be a coward and make the move? Of course! But if he'd rather prevaricate and trim his pubes in Spain than play in the CL and at top stadiums like , oh I don't know, WEMBLEY, then enjoy those Madriddy splinters in your bum lad. We won't remember you in two seasons.

I believe Poch is very happy with us and where we're at, and I have believed for sometime that he and Levy have been on growing, glowing terms. I think we saw full confirmation of that last night. So I say WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED. Would we all have liked an Isco? On paper, absolutely. But In Poch We Trust, and finally, as we saw with Daniel GIVING IN to Ashley last night, so does the chairman. A fine conclusion.

p.s. Sissoko will have a greater impact on our season than Mane on Liverpool's...who wants that bet?
Steff, you are without doubt in the leading group of the most optimistic folk on GG. What's your secret (other than having seen the great side of the 80's)?

I like the positivity.

However - we definitely overpaid (even in this market) I feel.

Leaving things that late smacked of confusion and desperation so slightly worrying.

He has talent so I think that IF poch can improve him like he has done to Dembele, Dier, Rose, Lamela then we have a very very good players on our hands. Also regardless of his poor output, I do think that he will open up a lot more space for others and he will add a dimension to our play that we didn't have. If he is focussed and on form I actually see him starting for us.

But Saudi Sportswashing Machine fans thought he was useless and a bad apple to go with it, his record as an attacking midfield is poor and he clearly is a big risk. Maybe it's because we needed someone that badly that I now think he will be good player for us... but I am quietly confident. Bar the poor attitude he actually has a lot of similarities to Demebele when he joined, so let's hope Poch rapidly improves him fast.

I heard we actually had it set a week ago because the player wanted to come here...Levy then apparently started fudging around...and was ultimately reminded...it had all the hallmarks of a Levy-press which would've ended with him refusing because he would've 'lost' the 'game'...in 'losing' to Ashley, he has likely made the most positive step forward with one of our club's manager in his tenure.

Not sure about Steff, but I'll ask the non optimistic group of GG, why wouldn't you be?

- We finished 3rd last season, with top scorer in league, 2nd top re assists, young team with great morale.
- We will be in the CL, got ourselves a decent group to have a good shot at progressing deep in tournament
- We have a manager that is so far turning out to be a very good acquisition
- We have our future (stadium) sorted and under way.
- We filled the only glaring holes in our squad and the chairman backed the manager in a way that most people doubted he would ever do.

Honestly, I'm not saying we will win the league or even finish top 4 again this season, but fudge me, if you have supported Spurs for more than the last 10-15 years and don't see a reason to look at this season optimistically? when will you?

May I interject and say that I too an am an optimist, despite watching Spurs for 44 years. We have a great young squad, a talented and forward thinking manager. The best Chairman in the Prem, very little debt, a fantastic academy and training facility, a wonderful new stadium coming, WTF is not to like? I don't just see the glass half full , I see it overflowing like a kiddush cup on Friday night. Now is a great time to be Tottenham fan. COYS!!

There must be at least 10 who think positively/foolishly like us. COYS!!!

There are those who are never happy unless they are unhappy and moaning no matter what, i never understand why they allow their negative side to be stronger then their positive side.

You don't know the power of the dark side.

I was a bit taken aback with the Sissosko signing but I'm over it now thanks to this thread full of hippies. We'll pick up Isco in Jan on the way to the treble.

I don't think we can really fault the squad now for a club in our position financially and at our stage of development

We have been linked with sissoko for some time so that's not a panic buy even if the fee looks it

NKodou has been with us for some time and the Marseille sale held that up

A back up keeper who could develop with us under Hugo is no bad thing

Wanyama is genuine cover and an alternative to Dier

I've only been impressed with Vincent when I've seen him play

For me when I look at our outgoing as well we're in a better place from last season when we were bloody good

When I look at sides around us buying the players they have it makes ours squad stand out even more for me

Most sides have aimed to improve their first 11 other than us from what I've seen. We have improved our weakness which was viable alternatives to the squad for cover and rest

Of the big sides I only think United have improved their first 11 noticeably but I think their squad is weaker
Liverpool look no different but seem to be set to p1ss off their best striker
Chelsea have signed a great player in Kante. Possibly a great player in Batshuiyi, and some dodgy defenders IMO
Arse have signed some unknowns and possibly addressed their weaknesses squad wise so let's see
City have improved just by having a manager who gets the players to play well but they started well last season so again let's see
I like Leicester's investment but it seems scatter gun to me and is leaving them with a big squad
Everton ... Well they ha end spent the £100m war chest they talked about SHOCKER
Southampton - no idea who they brought in
Spammers - slowly developing an aging squad now with some odd transfers

And the rest ... Meh!!

So for me were in a better place, and each Window should be judged against the other sides

I'm sure people will tell me im wrong and it's only my opinion but I don't see the weaknesses in the squad I did last season and that a huge change

I've been disgusted and turned off football during this transfer window. So much money being flung around causing the great game of football looking more and more like a computer game.

However, now that the window is closed and we can carry on with what it's really about, winning games, losing games, hating other teams and putting som real emotions into it, I'm quite intrigued with the remainder of the season!

We have a great squad and all the reason to be optimistic! Can't wait to have Dembéle back in the team, he is a beast and a unique one too! Name one player who can shield the ball and drive forward like him, because I can think of none.

COYS!
