Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

My normal seat is south lower
Yesterday at villa it was upper tier and a different view (literally)
When I said about it to my mate the guy behind me turned around and said the same thing
I don’t know if you get that view as well side in like you do with TV
Against united watch how many times Kulu gets the ball behind his left foot so he is kind of stretching and has to drag it forward. It means his stance is physically weaker than it should be. Was massively apparently against Liverpool
Very good and imo underestimated factor in playing well and good buildup play.

Part of why "pass completion" stats without context are pretty pointless.

And playing those passes well, accurate, good weighting, good timing, not just completing a pass is vital for a player to be a good at ball progression imo.

Romero, Porro, Maddison are all very good at it imo. Bergvall and Gray too, but perhaps more inconsistent (expected at their age). Some others are good too at times, but too inconsistent. While too many others aren't good enough at it.

You don’t need to be elite to be in the right positions defensively.

Which is mostly where our problems come from.

If you don’t have the energy to get back, don’t go in the first place.
In an attacking sense, sure. I guess. Though for me you also need to gamble at times that the team will be able to put the opponents under some sustained pressure and keep the ball high up the pitch for a while.

Defensively when we press higher the deeper players have to push up. Front players pressing and the deeper players not following up on that press is just a disaster waiting to happen.

As with the injuries, the tactics are a combination of fudge ups

- Biggest issue is core back line (CBs) lack the pace of VDV, so logically they are tending to sit a little back (even if they still get caught having to run back to the goal)
- The midfield & front line is still going forward (we can argue if it's actually pressing)
- This creates a space that is too big between back line and midfield that basically is open space for the opposition to punt the ball into for runners
- Porro is clearly still on orders to go high
- So we now have wide open spaces in mutliple places in the pitch which makes us super easy to play against.
- Add in the injuries meaning we lose players that are core to our pressing model (Solanke)
- Add in the senior players are knackered, Porro, Deki, Son are shot ...

But beyond that, game management is still the core issue under Ange

- It was fudging super clear with us coming off a bad loss, Villa having 8 days to prepare, it was a 100% case that Villa was going to rush us out of the gate. Simple, basic management would have said to the team, keep it tight for first 20 minutes, make sure we have a grip on the game before overcommitting, yet, what did we do?

I don't think you should ever be gambling 60 seconds in, as Porro was on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou has given his shattered Tottenham Hotspur players two days off as he attempts to hit the reset button on the club’s season.

Tottenham were knocked out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup over four depressing days for the club’s fans, but now have a week off before restarting their Premier League campaign against Manchester United.

That has given Postecoglou, the Spurs head coach, the opportunity to give his players a rest before starting his preparations for the United game on Sunday, when he hopes to have some absentees back.

The majority of Tottenham’s players were given Monday and Tuesday off after the Villa defeat, and Postecoglou hopes to see his squad boosted when they start work again on Wednesday.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, left-back Destiny Udogie, midfielder James Maddison and wingers Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert are expected to be among the first group of injured players to return for Postecoglou

Meanwhile, at the training ground today

Injuries are a Coincidence or because of this?

It's a factor, what % will always be an educated guess of some kind, but it's a factor.

Add in a squad that was being rebuilt (so a little light in areas), another factor

Failure to leverage resources appropriately (Spence, Moore, Reguilon, Lankshear) putting even more load on limited group.

Number of re-injuries

None of these things look good in isolation, combined they are a really bad look/statement

We didn't even keep it tight for 20 seconds.

@thfcsteff please pause this video at 18 seconds and also at 20s 22s 24s 26s 28s 30s.

Just look at where our midfield 3 are. Look at Porro's position. Look at how Bentancur has 2 men streaking down the wing behind him, but he comes across to tackle Rogers because Rogers has been given the freedom of the pitch.

Just look at our setup, our system, our tactics, our formation. Tell me you have faith that Solanke and Maddison coming back will fix THAT?!
