Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

I think this is a really fair appraisal of the situation overall. I do think we possibly expect more of Romero in terms of leadership simply because he has won a World Cup. And true to say we do not have an arial dominator. Much to ponder here...
I expect more because he is the most experienced
No other reason
brick players can win a cup
International football isn’t a great standard either. And the Messi factor is huge in that team
I’ll go out on a limb and having never met any of the players I’ll say they are all quite guys and quite introvertive. Dragusin is a serious chess player and comes form a family of elite athletes
Ben Davies is methodical thinker
Archie Gray is another maculae quiet lad
Spence I’m not sure about
That is a great bunch of mates but I’m not sure of any are gonna be that demanding, difficult fudger we need
And that is all speculation on my part having never met any of these guys
When I met rose and walker they both had really big personalities and an arrogance (it was peak Poch time)
And ex pros I’ve met from spurs who win things had that too (Graham Robert’s could tell you every player In every moment that he tackled, fouled, or stopped)
I’m not seeing that yet

Venom was added to the leadership group by Poch this summer.

As for the old guard, I always thought that Hugo, Walker and Vertonghen were the 3 defensive leaders. Toby less so, whilst Rose was more of a divisive character who wouldn't make a good captain. The only character in our back 5 that compares to me is Porro, but clearly Ange sees something in both Romero and Venom to have them in his leadership group. It's worth remembering that we were all saying the same thing about Poch's team, and now we're using them as examples. Even Hugo said in his book that he didn't feel ready for international captaincy in 2012 at 26 years old. He was 29 before he took the armband from Kaboul in 2015.

Personally, I think Ange needs to keep this back 5 together and just work on their weaknesses. Then see if they get replaced organically by any of the young phalanx, including the ones we might buy as Davies's and Forster's replacements in the next couple of windows. Then if the big offer comes in for one of the senior players, take it on its merit.

Was on the way to a home game once and there was a homeless man saying that the badger was facing the wrong way and that's what was bringing the bad luck.

I must admit that I've wondered a few times since that day if he is onto something.

We've been cursed since the early 90's at the very least, maybe it was Alan Sugar washing his car with Klinsmann's shirt. Good old Klinsi is a little wizard in disguise, his coaching shenanigans is just a cover.

It was like a whole new goalkeeping concept had been demonstrated at our stadium on Sunday watching Ipswich's keeper properly dominate his penalty area.
Sadly this rings true. At the time I was just blaming our poor corner-taking but it was also excellent goal keeping of a kind that Vic doesn't do. Ange values his "hard time" back story though.

I think we should expect more from all of them. Of course the captain and leadership group should take more responsibility, but they can all step up.

Without knowing what's going on behind the scenes it's difficult to know. I think quite a few of us were surprised when we saw Lloris in All Or Nothing. But from what we see on the pitch and what Ange has said there seems to be shortcomings.

I think that has to be on all the players, perhaps excusing the youngest a little bit.

Not sure I understand the surprise about Lloris. Would love to hear more about what you felt when seeing that doc.

I think I'm still cringing inside after watching Kane give that rah, rah speech at half time in that doc. Harry is definitely not captain material and has shown that in so many ways over the years. He had no words. As an England supporter, it really annoyed me that Jordan Henderson was overlooked by Southgate who just picked his best player at the time to wear the armband. Hendo was the unofficial England captain for years before his legs went. Even at the end, he would come on the pitch and lead the players whilst Harry and Gareth just did nothing. JT was an excellent captain as well for his country. Way better than Gerrard and Ferdinand.

What Ange need right now is a 26 year old Hendo. LOL - I'd take a 26 year old Kane as well, but he wouldn't be in my leadership group.

I don't think it's strange at all that we aren't buying competition for a starting GK position less than 18 months after buying a first choice GK
Competition is a loose term in this case. We'd immediately have a very good first choice keeper and a keeper of a competent level to back him up.

Possibly
Hard to tell
Personally I think the jitteriness js because none of the defenders have any leadership qualities. Not one
I wouldn’t back any of them for a battle of a game
They all have some exceptional qualities but when you look at it it’s an odd blend
The ballers are on the right (arguably our 2 best passers)
The runners are on the left (neither is a stand out passer). It’s something that’s bugged me but never really gets mentioned
Then add in that they are all weak in the air and it’s possible they make Vicario jittery
Could be 6 of one and half a dozen of the other
And then add in their combined lack of experience and it’s a bad mix possibly
I think it is Vicario who makes the defence jittery as opposed to it being the other way round.

I think it works both ways and it escalates too
If your defence can’t win headers or defend crosses you may prepare yourself more for the save you need to make
He does remind me of Gomes

We need a really commanding CB - someone that goes out of their way to just clear things.
I don't think Romero is that kind of player this season.
A friend of mine was talking about Romero and made the comment that with Otamendi, he plays with someone, that might not be the best centre back in the world, but someone that talks, is a leader, has experience.
I am not saying that we get rid of VDV - these guys are both exceptional footballers - but we don't quite have that lead CB in our team.

He's also captain as well.

Wasn't PEH our Hendo or at least similar?

I know he likes to bring through his coaches within but he needs some experienced top class coaches if he wants to keep his job. A defensive coach and set piece coaches are the priority IMO.

No. the jitteriness is because we have sir flaps a lot betwixt the sticks. I remember seeing his debut in Australia and knowing from that 90 minutes he wouldn’t even make it in league one let alone the championship. He’s a world class shot stopper. And can…sometimes play a decent a ball out. But he will never make it in the premier league, teams have sussed him out. Guy cannot control his penalty box. It’s obvious.

I like him but he is not a gk for the pl. especially with our defence. With our defence we need a shouter telling them what to do. Forster is like the opposite. Also a great brick stopper but cannot play the ball out ange style. But he does control the box a bit better. Combine the two and we have a keeper. Atm we have a guy at the back the defenders cant trust.

To say romero and mickey dont have leadership skills is just daft.

i think ange needs better coaches as he himself is not very experienced.

i don't think anyone except ange has had experience at a big EPL club or competing in Europe at first team assistant coach level or higher.
