Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Do you think Ange ball would work if we had Van Dijk and Dias at CB? Honest question, Would it work better or would anyone get exposed here with the full backs playing so high etc? I'm guessing in Scotland and Japan the opposition are not as clinical on the counter when Ange played this way before but I just don't know.
It would work if we had CBs winning headers
So yeah, those two would work wonders for us

So the CBs need to be good in the air, quick on the counter, and great playing out from the back. Seems like the system needs the perfect players in the perfect positions to get the best out of it.

Dragusin clearly ain't great on the ball or the quickest, and VDV was known to be weak on the air when we were first linked with him but Ange still went for these players, Maybe he had to settle for them and will aim to upgrade over time.

Maybe we just need to wait another window or two?

Nah
Just decent in the air stops the goals today and vs palace
A bit of leadership wouldn’t go amiss too
But winning headers and the little battles that go with that would be huge
I do think we will see more depth next season with Philips coming back and the Goal scoring Croat
What worries me is the options at full back

Or get a move to the Scottish premiere league.

Hard to say
But a wingers main job is to score and create
A fill back and centre back should defend
What we do see, frequently, is a decent ball form the left and Romero is under it time and time again
Porto is flailing and sometimes Johnson is nearby
Ipswich scored today like that
Palace did too

no, like all midfielders, they have an exact 50/50 balance of defensive and attack responsibility

Johnson regularly shirks his

I was there today and was tearing my hair out.

Ange wants to play this amazing idealogical attacking football but doesn't seem to be interested in getting the basics right.

Every cross that comes into our box is like a hand grenade going off, whereas at the other end it's either catching practice for the keeper or an unchallenged clearing header. Why oh why oh why do we not instruct just one player to track the keeper on corners. Just watch his movements and make sure you are there to challenge as he goes up for the ball. Basics.

As others have said, we just don't get enough threat from our wide players. Johnson is good at getting on the end of low crosses but not much else and we get occasionally flashes from Son, who just doesn't suit this system.

Solanke on the other hand is excellent and has quickly become our most important player. We will be royally fudged in he gets an injury.

Solanke did go down injured and I was worried
It looked like the sub was gonna be bissouma which would have meant son CF, Kulu right and Johnson left
That would have given us presence of a powder puff
Our attack in games like today lacks balance
I also think some of them are knackered

That's worrying, Praying for young loanees to solve our issues seems risky, considering Romero, VDV and Dragusin were all older, more experienced and cost a fortune! (Although Vuskovic does look good tbf). Being strong in the air would prevent issues from crosses but if we had Tarkowski and Coady at the back we wouldn't be able to pass out of our 18 yard box and would cough up possession constantly.

It just feels like we need complete all round defenders, complete all round forwards etc to make this work. I hope we continue to back Ange in January if we are planning on sticking with him for the long term.

Romero is the only CB who can pass if we’re honest and he is top notch at that
Bug he is weak against crosses and also just goes mad every now and then
VDV is weka in the air and ok ish with the ball but has elite pace
Neither player deals with crosses and that’s a strength, comparatively where Dragusin helps but he can’t pass like Romero
As I say a big concerns is the lack of rest time for Porro and destiny. Both look broken and to see Porro (who is our best passer) lose the ball 26 times in varying ways is a huge worry for me
That’s a lack of options but also Ange not trying others enough
I do think out injuries have hit certain areas en mass which agent helped either
We have a young defence and it’s a problem. There isn’t a leader there either

But he is on target to get around 20 gaols
Playing wide
And techncially incapable according to some

Just because he gets goals doesn’t mean he’s a technically good player. And the majority of goals he gets are getting on the end of crosses/through balls. Son still gets goals but you’re not a fan of him on the wing so I’m perplexed as to why you think Johnson isn’t a problem when his overall play isn’t much better than Son’s.

Johnson a player who has so few touches and so little in game impact is a problem. He's a passenger,

But Romero will almost NEVER pass to him. There were times in the first half when he was free on the touchline but Romero just ignores him.
Can't blame him when Johnson misses from 3 yards like he did today

If it helps to soothe the mind.
Barca are excellent this year, but have gone in 1-0 down at half time, to an average Real Sociedad side, who also missed a huge chance to make it 2-0.
OK, OK, so they might come back and win, but this kind of thing does happen.

its how often it happens to us thats the problem

every Spurs fan on the planet (other than @thfcsteff) knew we were going to lose today

Far too sensible this post

History tells us it won’t happen.
Obviously today was bad and unacceptable. But if we’re serious about a rebuild and Ange is the manager we’ve chosen to lead that rebuild then he needs this season and next for sure.
And now that we’ve got a good infrastructure within the club hierarchy I don’t think Levy being trigger happy is going to happen. Ange will go when the likes of Lange and Munn no longer have faith in him.
There does need to be a post mortem though on why we are so inconsistent ((or maybe why we are so consistent when it comes to being the gift that keeps on giving, depending how you look at it).
I agree with everything you wrote in your first paragraph but nothing you said in your second. Levy will sack him as soon as “Levy/ENIC out” chants are heard at the stadium.
