I don't like Ange, William it because we won yesterday so I can't be accused of being knee jerk.

Have not taken to him.

I feel a bit indifferent about him, to be honest; there’s something there that I just don’t warm too that much.

But that’s by the by, as I’ll largely judge him on what happens on the pitch. He’s showing signs that he’s learning, so happy for him to keep doing that. I’m enjoying watching us a bit more of late, although there is much still to do on the defensive side of things.

Fair point. We do need someone with a bit more meanness/steel who can also play in the DM. Bissouma does both to an ok standard but does neither at higher than a 6/10 IMO. Sometimes he will give you an 8 or he can also chuck in a 3/10.

Ange has more options to switch things that Poch did - he has square pegs to fit into square holes. In Poch's second season he had to shoehorn a CB into a defensive midfielder. Agree that Dembele was a beast, but his body struggled with the demands of the PL. Same with Wanyama.

Where the difference comes between the 2 is that Poch ensured a better balance between defence and attack. Ange set up yesterday with Madison sitting deep and Sarr on the bench whereas Poch would have had, where possible 2 defensive midfielders who would cover across when the full backs bombed forward.

Ange learnt yesterday from the Brighton debacle, probably because we were not dominating WHam like we did Brighton. He swapped Maddison for Sarr which changed the game. Good on him. Hope it means he is learning to be more flexible tactically. He has a pretty good squad and needs to use it.

We continue to create chances which will eventually get tucked away … but defensively we are more solid. We have ability in this team … it’s frustrating to watch at times as it’s just a few tweaks which will mean that we are less likely to concede and hopefully turn our huff and puff into results

I think collectively we have been alot better this season than last, people are still making silly mistakes, we are certainly getting numbers back into a shape better than last, we are not stretched 2 on 2 or caught short at the back as we were. The goal yesterday was naïve from Udogie (who infairness to both him and Ange assuming he got a rocket was tremendous second half)

Top scorers in the league and only conceded one or two more than Arsenal, one set play concession this season I think it is, might seem heresy to say on here but I think we are better than we were and the trade off isn't as much as people are making out.

Imo even last season we rarely got outnumbered, we'd have numbers back but either in the wrong position, not being aware or Ball watching. That happened again with yesterday's goal. BJ not picking up a potential goal scorer. Beyond the immediate defenders (not ignoring Romeros moments this season btw) players need
to be astute, playing the percentages of what 'might' happen.

What's most annoying is when the defensive action to do something is fully open to that player. If they're outpaced, out tricked, or done by really smart movement.....then fair enough.

People reinvent history to support their case sometimes. Poch had been offered numerous players but I think he decided against them as they didn’t suit him. I think poch would fair much better under the current setup of buying players rather than enjoyed previously.

It wasn't my opinion, that doesn't count for brick. It was widely reported at the time. He then went and bought Wanyama the following season so clearly he wanted a different option to play alongside Dembele. I think he saw Dier as a Utility defensive player rather than in any fixed position. Wanting Schneiderlin then buying Wanyama showed he wanted another defensive midfielder.

But tbh we are going off track, I don't think it is disputed that Poch did not have the same options in midfield that are available to our current manager. So Ange has to use his options better. He did on Saturday and long may it continue.

But maybe the options available were not the right options; it's hard to know with that statement taken out of context. After all, in the previous season didn't he get Benjamin Stambouli instead of his preferred option? I am sure he wouldn't have turned down a top class of DM.

I think it's really good that we have both options (Two of the players you mentioned or Kulusevski and Maddison together in midfield). We've been fantastic at times this season with the Maddison Kulusevski lineup.

I guess I agree. But I also think that shows flexibility. Including with the adjustments in how the full backs have seemingly operated.

I'm not sure we have a first choice midfield at the moment, quite a bit of real competition there and that's good.

Poch had a better first 11 (for now), Ange has a better squad

I think there is more competition for places than I can remember, from the team that started yesterday, Bentancur, Dragusin, Sarr, Spence, Richi all can claim to be pushing for a first team spot, even Gray, Bergvall, Werner should be in picture.
