I agree. All I think has happened is that Poch has kept faith with the team after a dominant performance against Sunderland, where Vertonghen only missed out because of an injury.

Perhaps Poch felt that the best central pairing were needed in Belgrade? I'm not to sure we'd have got a 0-0 on Thursday with today's back line.

I'm hoping we see Kaboul and Chiriches play versus Forest but if instead , we see Fazio and Verts on Wednesday, I will begin to worry about Poch .

Agreed.

And the defending was not really the issue today. WBA has 7 shots in total, 1 on target. With the goal, blocked big chance and penalty incident all coming from set pieces. (Zonal marking anyone?)

The problem was the attacking.

Dominant performance but the 2 cb's in that game were far from dominant and were clearly our weak link.

I would be quite happy to see Fazio and Verts play on Wednesday, but then I'd also like to see them both keep their places for the Arsenal game.... I think another game together as a pair will do them good and they should be able to cope with two games in 4 days at this stage of the season (after all we'd expect them to if we were in the Champions League).

Fazio doesn't deserve a premier league game yet. He wasnt great last week.
I'd go with Dier and Vertonghen on Saturday, Fazio and Veljkovic on Wednesday

im more interested in who starts v Arsenal - potentially we could see Verts and Fazio played mid week and again on Saturday

that's interesting, i didn't see the game (save the opening 20 minutes) but most of what ive read said he played well?

I think most of what has been written is mainly based on him not being Kaboul. He was okay, made one really bad mistake that we got away with.

He made a good few errors that Vertonghen covered for.
Vertonghen has his best game in a year that night.

But his performance wasn't really what people were looking at that night. For a lot of people it was the first time they seen him play and were instead rating him on his ability.

Thought he was a bit better than ok. Was dominant physically and in the air, composed on the ball and all around solid. The mistake was pretty bad, but the kind of thing that happens.

I'm ok with Poch settling in some players a bit slower. Remembering some of the reactions to some of our new boys last season I wouldn't want the new lads to be set up to fail by throwing them in before they're ready.

He was ok?? **** me did you go to the game? Worst defensive performance I've seen at White hart lane! He passed to their strikers all the time and didn't want to clear it at all. He was intent on dribbling it out. One of the worst defenders we have ever had and you thought he did ok....Jesus.

I think it was Fazio that he is referring to as being "OK" mate....

Not Chiriches or (club captain) Kaboul - who I think the general consensus is..... "Absolutely bloody woeful"

I think because people are discussing the options to play instead of Chiriches.... Currently opinion seems to be divided on whether it should be Fazio or the traffic cone sitting on the stadium development site who does so. My thoughts are that we could bring in both of them to replace both Chiriches and Kaboul.
