Transfer thread

Yeah and we know Ange is big on that, as I’m sure most managers would be.

I always think it’s much more evident with goalscorers whether they settle or not from abroad. Your Salah’s, Mbuemo’s, Isak’s are like gold dust. We’ve not really had someone put up numbers from outside the prem since Son. Deki may go up again but suspect he’ll play more central when fit and won’t ever get past 10 goals.

I haven’t got all the names but we’ve tried a fair few. Having said that, even our prem signings in that department haven’t set the world alight. Richy/Solanke.

That’s a problem we need to solve quite quickly wherever we sign from. Son’s numbers are only going to go one way. I think we’ve seen the ceiling of Johnson’s numbers. Solanke I just don’t think is quite good enough to get us back up there (although he has shown bigger returns at Bournemouth - but that’s looking like an outlier).

We need to add goals - either up top, or in the LF/RF area.

Your wide Prem candidates with good numbers are Bowen, Mbuemo, Cunha.

Those that could go up again from 8-10 to maybe 15 goals are probably Mitoma, Semenyo. Maybe even someone like Madueke.

Outside of that - you’re looking abroad. And I think someone else made a good point - there’s just a far bigger pool of players to choose from and they are going to be cheaper than those mentioned above. That’s where Don P has to get it right.

There's Wissa as well but he's 28 and not really worth it for us.

It would be a massive risk but I think Sancho could get into the 10-15 goal bracket, I reckon UTD would sell for £10-15m as well given the Chelsea deal was £25m that they rejected. Risk is massive wages and an unmotivated player but I think with the right manager he still has lots to offer.

If Man Utd had a brilliant financial situation this year and had won the Europa Final, and thus won ~£100m, and had managed to sell Rashford and Sancho and Fernandes, and then immediately signed Cunha and tried to sign Mbeumo, whilst we sit on our thumbs, everything would make sense.

But, but, I'm pretty sure MNU lost the Europa Final? And haven't sold those players. Very frustrating watching it unfurl. One can only hope for the worst from these sorts.

I wonder if we are back in for Randal Kolo Muani. I know nowt about his playing time etc, just wondering aloud.

Never watched Muani but 8 goals in 16 games is a decent return. Going by Wiki he cost PSG 80m euros as well, must have shown a lot of talent to go for that fee. Definitely worth considering.

Sancho is quality
But… has he got the hunger

Through cooking the books by selling parts of their business to a sister company. There's proposals to close those loopholes, just like after they used the 8 year contract length to avoid punishment. I suppose they'll move onto another loophole next...
They are alsi trying to get Kudos from West Ham apparently. Great player id love to see us go for.
You have to wonder though if Chelski know something we dont. I.e all this ffp etc is going to be cancelled soon. Dont they only need 2 more clubs to vote against those rules? Pretty sure teams like Everton and Forest could easily vote against them.

It's interesting that so much of the early window news is about wide forwards.

I think we may underrate our own. Makes you wonder where someone like Johnson sits in the stats tables for wide forwards.

Cherki looks a real talent. Shame I think we've missed out on that one.
In the Jan window there were many people (Not just this forum but other clubs fans) saying he looks a great talent but has a bad attitude and not a team player etc and that's why no one seems to be really interested in him. This window everyone seems to have flipped to how he would be an ideal signing for any club that could get him.

You never know in football though. I'd hate to be a director of football, You can do all your homework and a player still doesn't work out and you take all the flak etc lol

The attitude is down to how you manage him
But pep is gonna drain all that out of him

If they are sticking with no tactics Ange atleast make some fudging signings.

The illusory truth effect only goes so far, not sure who you're trying to convince if not yourself. I work with amateur coaches who work with all age groups of young footballers; even those that have a casual background in the sport have tactics and approach to games that they attempt to instill in the players. But, feel free to copy and paste your thoughts without any further discussion if it feels good!

Ah don't do that, we'll have @Bishop wading in to tell us once again how goals don't matter and Johnson is a limited player, unlike all of the unlimited wide forwards out there that probably didn't score a winning goal in a final this season just gone. They can do some fancy stepovers though.

It really will be fascinating to see which way we go. As always, quite a mixed bag on here as to what the priority is. Big questions on whether Ange stays, and if the medical department can forsee Richy actually managing to remain fit for a season or not. Plus Paratici's potential future with us, a lot of moving parts.

To be clear, I don't care about stepovers I care about contribution to general play. Goals are nice but all the things he doesn't do a part of the reason we finished where we finished (obviously not him alone). We have the same problem on the left hand side, wide players who don't contribute in general play positively.
