He thinks he is a midfielder and needs to be told differently very soon.
But semantics aside, he is a very defensive player (which the point of the original post) - his attacking threat is akin to that of a CB bringing the ball into midfield.
Although long term I agree, Dier is very important to us in midfield given the injuries to winks and Sissoko. Great to get 90 mins under his belt and I Hope he stays fit for the rest of the season.

Our full backs offered absolutely nothing going forward. Why was Foyth chosen over hat trick assist hero KWP. Mystifying.

We need two new flying attacking full backs that can deliver a cross next season.

Right-back yes, however realistically I fear that we need to add more bodies more urgently in other positions that LB will have to wait. Ideally Sessegnon arrives as well, but RB, Dembele replacement and more bodies in attacking areas are more pressing given Rose can still do a good enough job at LB

Are you saying the World Cup has a toll on the players?
I ask as most people have forgotten last summer
Some seem to have . It’s great having loads of internationals in your side but summer tournaments affect the club side no doubt about it. For myself I think so

Don’t disagree with the priorities you stated. However, our system relies heavily on fast strong full backs who can deliver a cross. Davies and Rose have both been poor delivering from the left , especially this season.

Methinks a bit of perspective is called for here. Kane was a big miss today; others have been out for prolongued spells eg Lamela, Aurier, meaning eg Eriksen, Toby have had to play way too many games resulting in noticeable signs of fatigue; others again are battling through a spell of poor form, eg Dele, others again eg Rose, Foyth are having to play out of position.

Yet we are still in the CL semi-finals and top three in the League.

For sure we need to offload a few and bring in some fresh faces but I really don't see the need for a wholesale clear-out. That could lead to an unnecessary spell in the doldrums whilst we rebuild.

So, careful what you wish for.

Sorry wasn’t meant to be as dramatic as it sounded. What I mean is if we get CL this year, the club can’t sit on its hands and not sign anyone and expect top 4 again. The squad badly needs refreshing.

Why do people keep nominating Rose? He was rubbish today and even worse against Brighton.

My problem with Rose today was that he played like someone on the left of a flat midfield in a 4-4-2. Whereas we we’re playing a diamond in midfield.

This meant that whilst he generally did ok with the ball (and hence ppl nominating him for MOTM), he was playing far wider than we needed and meant we had big gaps more centrally.

Not really his fault as he’s spent his career hugging the touch line. We’d have been better with him at LB, Skipp at CM with Dier and Eriksen further forward in a 4-2-3-1

DIdn't see the game but West Ham certainly have more than enough quality to upset an under strength and fatigued Spurs side. I think what we've seen through the season is a side who is not equipped to deal with going too deep in other competitions and maintaining very good league form. On top of this we have 3 very injury prone players in central midfield this season, and our fourth and most dependable has broken down because of exhaustion. Again I maintain it has been a phenomenal achievement up til this point.

Not getting a replacement for Dembele seems to have been a real blow to us. We should have just kept him for another 6 months unless we managed to secure some cover (even a loan).

As you stated, part of the issue with Rose is that he has spent pretty much all of his senior career as a left back/wing back and not as a left sided midfielder. I’m not a professional coach, but I think those are different positions with different demands on a player. If we weren’t down to the bottom of our midfield options we wouldn’t choose to plat two LBs in the same formation.

I don’t get the rumors that Tielmans was offered to us but Poch said no, makes no sense, so cant be true, surely?

Should have got in Tilemens on loan. However a friend of mine who is a Monaco fans says he's no good and is lazy.

Everyone in the French league looks lazy. Firstly, the French have turned laziness into an art-form and secondly, the French league is played at walking pace

I didn't get to watch the game, and haven't read anything about the game, but the result is exactly as I predicted. We often struggle against those clams when they have some chance of fudging up something for us.

Yeah, doesn’t bode well for Walker-Peters future at Spurs that he cannot get a run out even with Trippier out of sorts plus Aurier injured; unless he’s being saved for Tuesday!

Can understand Foyth getting picked when we’re trying to keep Emirates Marketing Project’s wingers quiet but at home to the Spammers with a narrow midfield diamond it does seem that a natural wing-back would be preferable to a converted CB.

Because he runs around a lot and looks busy, and goes hard into tackles and Flys through the air. That makes it look like he's really trying, and that's enough, even if nothing he does comes off.

I voted Rose as the best of a bad bunch because, while the positional criticism is valid, he worked to get the ball and tried to be positive with it rather than take a safer option backwards or sideways. He did more than just the headless chicken routine.
