If Parker and Sandro sit deep and protect our backline, tracking Lampard and Mata, I'm happy

If they EVER burst forward and try to be Zidane, I think we'll get beaten on the break. Know your limits boys.

We play 5 across the midfield to dominate midfield. It's the way we have to play to win the big games, and it is how we should have played against Arsenal (yet we hardly ever do). There is simply no room for not controlling the midfield in these games. Having the ball for most of the time reduces their attacking threat, reduces the backing from the stands, reduces their attacks to countering. With the players we are able to field, we should always control midfield. And the way to do that is crowding the middle.

It's a bit like chess really, the four central squares are the most important ones to control.

We did play that way against Arsenlal away. And we always play this way against the big teams away from home. This year we played that way at home too (against City and Utd, we did play 4-4-2 against Arsenal, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Chelsea)

We MUST be mindful of Ramires runs. We got lucky at the Lane a few times, he is very quick when he breaks from midfield.

No I just gave you two examples. There are more, including starting with 4-5-1 against City this season, 2-0 down. Switch it to 4-4-2 and pulled it back to 2-2. The other games against the big teams we've played 4-5-1 and lost.

Our best form over the last three years, home and away, has always come playing 4 and 4. Almost everytime we switch it to 4 and 5 we lose or draw. Those are simple facts.

This is our best season since either 1989/90 or 1986/87 and we've played 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1 for pretty much all of it, other than the last 5 games, 4 of which we've been absolutely embarrassing in.

No one decent has used 4-4-2 since Beckham left United nearly a decade ago. You just aren't competitive in midfield with a man down.

When we match a top side with a similar formation like this, I think it becomes a game of chess. Mistakes often lead to the winners in a narrow game. of course in a derby this can occasionally all go out the window.

No we didn't.
Friedel, Walker, Kaboul, King, Assou-Ekotto,Kranjcar, Parker, Modric, Bale, Adebayor, Saha
4-4-2.

We went 2-0 up by pure chance, and we let a lesser midfield control the game. Unforgivable and suicidal.

We've played 4-4-2 for most of it, so WTF are you going on about?! When VDV partners Ade, it's 4-4-2.
