***Tottenham v Brentford OMT***

Bit unfair given they had six signings done before pre-season even started, for over £232m. Yes the attack looks brick, but that was the lesser problem today compared to how awful that defense looked, and that's the one that was reinforced first, midfield following after.

All on de Zerbi today I'm afraid. Got his lineup wrong and his tactics wrong.
It was almost like he thought it was still preseason.

We’ll have better days this season. That starting selection was horrible though. As soon as I saw that I was worried. But thought nah we can’t be that bad for the first game. Except we were.

The issues come as you cant just chuck league games away like this...rot sets quick. Asking 6 players to come in and change the vibe is pure old school football manager vibes. All other sides are too well prepared for it. We cant repeat this next game

That was a very weird performance. Just completely disjointed. Unfortunately I think it means that we aren’t going to make a miraculous run to the title with our expensive new signings. But I still hold out hope of a comfortable return to Europe for next season. Often teams that step up so drastically in terms of quality of signings take time to settle them all in, and I think we’re seeing that. They all looked like they didn’t know each other. Didn’t seem like leadership dynamics had established themselves on the pitch yet. And so we just lost it in key moments. Not strong enough.

But….i am confident about the quality we have, I think you can see Fernandes for example is a class above. Already so vocal for someone so young, demanding players to get where he needed them to be. And in general, I think our new signings showed their quality. Some of the passing of JPVH and Senesi to break lines was very good. Robertson’s cross for Moore’s chance was fantastic. Tonali didn’t really live up to 100m price tag but I think he’ll get there. I actually thought Tel looked dangerous and confident.

I think we were let down from the hangers on from last season. Richy unfortunately is just a non-entity. Bergval unfortunately showed that he couldn’t be trusted to not lose the ball in a key area. And Moore really should have finished one of the three chances that he had. Madders unfortunately looked way off it.

I think we’ll be ok. We started last season with a 3-0 win and then a win at the Etihad, so it’s literally no prediction of how a season can go. But I think we need to get the cohesion and dynamics of the squad sorted as a matter of urgency. It was very odd to see the team look so unsure and disconnected, even compared to last season where we looked tighter knit in De Zerbi’s games almost immediately.

We know he wasn't a fan of that Australia tour, but the players looking this ill-prepared is not a good sign.

And it's not just the players - I saw that lineup and thought 'weak in the air, Brentford will hit the channels', and that's exactly what they did. Shocks me that de Zerbi's opposition analysis was that poor, to think he could get away with that lineup against a team like Brentford who are all physicality.

Not like he didn't have the tools. Danso was on the bench. Bentancur likewise. Solanke and Udogie, too. All would have added physicality to a team clearly in need of it.

Sky analysis currently ripping us to bits.

I've spent the last couple of days on safari in the Okavango delta, and the last things we saw today were TWO GODDAMN HONEY BADGERS!

It's a sign, I tell you. Stick your house on us beating Brentford and finishing top 4!

Pity I can't post a photo. It was too dark by then and I only caught a fleeting glance by torchlight. They didn't look happy. But then, honey badgers never do.
Fudging honey badgers. Last time I trust those bastards.

The only positive I have right now is that I haven't got any work on monday so it will at least delay the amount of brick I am going to get from the lads I work with. A nice bunch but between them Arsenal Chelsea West Ham Liverpool and Man Utd supporters so you can imagine the grief I am going to get.
Still as the song goes "things can only get better"
Its the cross we have to bear being Spurs fans. The bloody hope that kills you

I’d imagine the United and West Ham fans will be quiet at least.

I think he has made the selection today and the ones all pre season on the basis of not risking any injury problems. The trade off is that what we saw today was not good. But it will hopefully stand us in good stead as the season really kicks into gear.
