*TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Stevenage OMT *

I can only hope he regrets making that comment now.

He already said during the match that it came out wrong when he was pulled up on it....he meant the positive was that Walker came on, and Kabouldwent CB, not that Dawson was out through injury. It sounded dodgy, but he didnt mean it like that.

I'm very happy to hear that. Cheers, didn't want to read through the entire match thread :)

re comments on the previous page, Bale's penalty wasn't as the replays show and the injury news in the Sun is only what Harry said after the match.

Fair enough I was in block 33 so my view was not the best, it looked a foul on the replay though as he slid in, did not make contact with the ball and bale kicked his boot. Do we now say it isn't a foul because he tripped over his leg rather than he was tripped?

Ok just watched the replay properly, debatable but I can see why the ref gave it. Cant see how they can say Bale went down easily, that looked fricking painful.

I'm no diver, says Bale

Gareth Bale has rejected claims he dives and insists the only reason that he goes to ground so often is because he needs to evade rash tackles.

Bale became one of the most highly-rated players in world football last year after some stunning displays for Tottenham both at home and in Europe, and has continued his meteoric rise this term, scoring 11 goals and providing countless assists to help the Londoners into third place in the Premier League.

One of the few criticisms aimed at the speedy Welshman is that he goes to ground too easily - an accusation that surfaced most recently when he appeared to drag his trailing leg in order to win a penalty against Arsenal two weeks ago.

The former Southampton man insists he is no diver, however, claiming that he only hits the deck so much because he is trying to swerve the late challenges of opposition players.

"If people want to say I'm diving then they can, but I'm trying to get out of the way and save myself, save my career if you like," he said.

"It's a bit annoying (when people say I dive) but you've got people flying in at you, you're trying to get out of the way of the challenge. If you stand there, you're going to get a whack.

"You can see why people say you're diving but I'd rather get out of the way than get hurt, that's what it is. It's football, a contact sport, things do happen and you've got to try to be clever with it.

"I'm more likely to try to get out of the way and not get hurt, rather than get hurt. I tend not to dive."

Despite being the victim of a number of rash challenges this season, Bale sees the treatment as a backhanded compliment to his abilities.

He added: "People want to take you down and get you out of the game and I suppose you can take it as a compliment.

"It's not nice but I think it's to be expected now. In a way they think that's the only way they can stop you. You get up and get on with it like the best players do and go at them again.

"You get used to it. I've got a few people sent off by doing that this year. You get up and get on with it, it's a part of the game."

Tottenham are awaiting the results of scans on Michael Dawson and Aaron Lennon, who came off during Wednesday night's 3-1 FA Cup replay win over Stevenage.

Dawson fell awkwardly after jumping with Stevenage player Chris Beardsley and Spurs fear he may have suffered ankle and knee ligament damage.

Lennon's hamstring injury looked far less serious, but losing the in-form winger for any amount of time so soon after his return from another hamstring complaint is a big problem for manager Harry Redknapp, who takes his team to Everton on Saturday.

Bale, meanwhile, is hopeful of being fit for the trip to Goodison Park after coming through Wednesday night's game despite suffering with a virus recently.

"I found it difficult in the first half but I felt stronger as the game went on," he said.

"It was good to get some running into my legs and hopefully now I can kick on."

Its a weird one because the guy was careless, but Id be annoyed as hell the other way round

There is something a bit theatrical about Bale though. Just look at the way he's rolling around after getting the penalty yesterday, holding his hand over his face, as if it hurts that bad. Looks a bit stupid, to be honest, have no idea why he does it, as it only makes him look like a typical cheating diver.

Didn't pay too much attention to this match thinking we won't have much problem beating them. But Spurs are Spurs, always have to make it harder for us, don't we. We always have this bad habit of not turning up against minor teams, especially since Redknapp took over. Not sure how Redknapp motivates the players but they don't seem to be motivated enough against these mickey mouse teams.

The players played as if this was a pre-seaon friendly match. Did they realise we were playing for a quarter final place in FA Cup ? If not for the individual brilliance of Defoe, we could have suffered one of the most humiliating defeats in our history. Due credit for Defoe. He has such a great goal scoring record in Cup matches. IIRC, the commentator said Defoe has now scored something like 21 goals in 27 FA Cup matches ! If only he can do that in league matches !

Due credit for Stevenage for giving their best shot. We did make them look great but still they were not scared to attack us. They could have won this match if they had better strikers like Defoe. But the fact they even scored is really embarassing for us. That's what you get for being complacent. Fortunately for us, Defoe came to our rescue.

Now that we are in the quarter finals against Bolton, hope the players will give their best to go all the way to win the FA Cup !
