Looks to me like Luisao is slower than cheese, so they are playing very compact and deep with every player defending with maximum energy... then we get sucked forward with Walker and Sandro playing right wing and then BAMMO they break on us and we are wide open. That is the kind of play Spurs could copy, with Dawson at the back and Lennon breaking.
 
Sandro is everywhere, defence, attack, literally everywhere. It's so sad that he has to do everything and collect a second yellow soon enough.

Dawson shouldn't be anywhere near a spurs squad.

You'll lose the ball at points in the opposition half but you expect your defense to be aware, Naughton got caught by the run off the ball and you could see him pause to consider whether to play offside or go with the runner, that indecision was the moment the goal was on.
 
Man, they are so much better than us. I think we can knick a goal. Soldado needs to come on though

i'd have to agree with that. if we now accept not being in the same class as benfica we may as well all go home now.

they haven't been outstanding - you don't have to do anything to beat us: we can't attack or defend. Just wait for the implosion if your the opposition. It always comes sooner or later. We're a very poor side.
 
Long way to go yet, but we are certainly going to have to play very well from here on if we are going to go any further in this competition. Benfica look like a very accomplished side when they're on the ball, and pretty solid off it.
