*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace***OMT ***

Very annoyed with this defeat. This is typical Spurs, 1 week after beating title-chasing Chel53a, we go on to lose to a shyte team. Will our mentality and luck ever change ? Wish we had lose to Chel53a instead. That would have been more acceptable. Losing to a shyte team is simply unacceptable, even it if was away. Even more annoying is that we lost after leading 1-0. Never thought we will lose after taking the lead.

This match proves how badly we need a top quality defensive midfielder who can defend and tackle when needed. Stambouli should not have gone for the wild tackle inside the penalty area but he did and conceded the penalty, rather unfairly. Dembele and Capoue should have tackled the Palace player from shooting but they didn't and we conceded the 2nd goal. It was really stupid of Stambouli to go for tackle like that inside the penalty area. There was no real danger of Palace scoring from there. You know the Palace player will always try to dive to win the penalty which he did. You cannot blame the ref as he was fooled by the Palace player. Stambouli has to blame himself for error of judgement as we were comfortable at 1-0 until then. Thought Pochettino did a mistake by bringing on Capoue after we conceded the 1st goal. He should have brought on Lennon to help our attack. Really annoyed that we never used Lennon as our 3rd sub despite badly needing a goal.

Despite the defeat, credit to Kane for continuing his goal scoring run. He took his goal well, even if he was a bit lucky as he appeared slightly offside. It is great to see us having an on-form striker after so long. But too bad we failed to win the match. Apparently this is the first time we have lost a league match in which Kane have scored. Chadli did well to assist the goal for Kane. This makes Chadli our most creative player now with 5 assists, 1 more than Lamela. Really disappointed Eriksen had a poor game. He should have scored the open goal in the first half but he wasted it. Even worse, it was Eriksen who gave away the ball for their 2nd goal. Maybe Eriksen is tired after playing in almost all the matches for us so far this season. Too bad we don't have a proper backup for Eriksen now.

Thought our defence of Vertonghen and Fazio did well until the penalty. After that, they couldn't handle the pressure by Palace. Lloris did well to make a good save in the 2nd half. But felt he could have reacted faster for their 2nd goal. As long as our defence cannot stop conceding goals like this, we cannot hope to achieve anything this season. Hope we will buy a top quality defensive midfielder to improve our defending.

Funny thing was, when we were leading 1-0, I was dreaming maybe we can put up a late challenge for the top 2. But ofcourse, Spurs will always let you down badly when you give them high hopes. The defeat to Palace has really spoiled my mood. Losing 5 points to a shyte team like Palace is simply not acceptable and won't help our top 4 race at all. Disappointingly, we have looked vulnerable all season. I think we miss AVB who improved our away form greatly and never lost to a shyte team away in the league.

Why shouldn't they have had a penalty? Stambouli dives in like an idiot and gets none of the ball, penalty. Kane runs through a gap and does a Stevie Starfish, the silly little leg flick at the end made the ref's mind up for him. We were probably lucky to get away with a Vertonghen handball that went unnoticed by everyone.

Stop whining! This was a game of fine margins, and we happened to be on the wrong side of it. Eriksen missed a sitter, A mildly speaking, soft penalty for them, penalty not given for us, and a deflected pass that produces the winner. **** happens! Move on and get on with it! COYS!

Agreed. We cannot blame the ref as even Kane was in a offside position when he scored that goal. Also, Kane was a bit immature when he fell down like that under challenge. Kane's fall didn't look natural at all. At first glance, it looked like a dive by Kane but only the TV replays showed he was fell by the Palace player. Also, thought we were lucky not to concede 2 other penalties as Vertonghen and Walker clearly handled the ball. In fact, even Walker stopped playing thinking he had conceded the penalty late in the match.

Walker was a good couple of yards outside the box though, I don't know how the commentators neglected to mention that.

He didn't get the ball, but he didn't make contact with the man either. Ledley ran into Stambouli's leg who was already on the ground. Never a penalty.

Kane was clearly fouled by Ledley. Maybe he made fell down a bit dramatically, but it's still a penalty.

I honestly missed the replay of the Vertonghen handball-incident.

Someone said that Kane was offside for his goal. Replays showed he wasn't.

Walker's handball was outside the box, but I agree it should been a free kick. When you don't look at the ball, you have no excuse.

True. But the reaction of Walker and the Palace players could have influenced the ref. Talking about the reaction, it was really stupid that none of the Spurs players, apart from Stambouli, protested to the ref when he gave the penalty. Even more silly that some players decided to confront the ref only after the match ends ! Apparently, we have conceded the most penalties(6) in the league so far. It is not surprising since we never protest everytime we concede penalties. The refs are just happy to give penalties against us since we tamely accept the decisions.

In the words of Bill Lumbergh..if we could go ahead and learn how to defend properly that would be er greeeeat.

The problem is we don't have many players who can defend ! Most of our defenders like Walker, Dier, Rose, Naughton, Davies and Chriches only knows how to attack !

some of the blame has got to go to poch.
are we playing too high a line?
do we have a plan B when we seem to get tired on the pitch?
is there a time for a more economical form of football?
why can't we let them attack and we wait for a counter for a change?

maybe this is all part of the learning curve, but it is rather irritating to watch, when some simple (not drastic) solutions could have been employed at little risk.

Slightly disappointing that Dembele seems not to be getting proper recognition for a dramatic improvement in positivity. In the last couple of seasons he's been heavily criticised for constant sideways and rearward passing but who else agrees in the last few weeks we have witnessed a radical change for the better?

Not only did he compete energetically for domination in midfield, he also produced a string of telling FORWARD passes (I counted at least six) including the one to Chadli that led to Kane's goal. Not all found their target but all were close and those that did not were nevertheless excellent attempts to create an opening. He also played his full part in several excellent one-touch passing moves that switched the ball swiftly from defence to attack.

Was disappointed late-on when he turned his back for Puncheon's goal but other than that I thought he was one of our best players yesterday and certainly for me at least on a par with Mason whose forward passing is at best erratic.

Hopefully this big improvement / return to form is down to Poch's positive influence, but maybe also he's been reading all the negative stuff on forums like this and has taken note.

So come on fellas, how about a bit more validation for this welcome all-round improvement?

Painful defeat that. After a great goal from Kane, the team structure fell apart. We'd been well on top most of the game, then seemed to intensify our pressing after we scored and it didn't work out. That is when we needed an older head or someone with greater leadership and composure in the middle. I thought Capoue might have helped shore us up. I thought it was a marginal pen. Sometimes given sometimes not. There was very little contact with the attacker who only went down because he threw himself down.

Even the match pundits felt the same about Walker. They are simply making too many mistakes in defence.

Backflash to "he can't defend this guy" comment from Sherwood to me.

Even the match pundits? Really? Who were they and why does their word mean anything?

Walker was excellent defensively before his injury, only natural that he's taking a little while getting back into things, particularly in a not exactly settled side playing games twice a week at least. Naughton and Davies are solid PL full backs at worst, Rose is up and down, but has done rather well this season - also defensively. Vlad did quite well at full back and Dier is still very young and settling in.

We lost because when we was in the ascendency and one goal up Chadli, Ericksen and Townsend were so wasteful it made me weep, also imo the subs we made were stupid, the other reason just could be that we are trying for top four with top ten players, I say again that whoever buys our players should be shot.

COYS

I think we miss AVB

ho ho ho, there are some very strange folk out there in cyberland.:ross: Hugely disappointing to lose but c'est la vie.

My biggest fear is that this performance comes out against Sheff Utd... Im almost certain it will but maybe this result could be the wake up some need. Its 100% effort every game. When you are 3-0 up then you can take your foot off.

Hard work will always beat talentthat doesnt work hard.
