I would settle for a decent performance in which there are some green shoots of what Nuno is trying to do and including some attacking philosophy/style (and a line-up which balances attack and defence). If we had that but lost, I'd accept it as it would help have some belief in the long-term

I would like that too. But dont see it. Think i will skip this as i cant handle watching 90min of me wondering why we cant play football. I didnt watch city and we won. So im hoping that happens.
I've never read it to mean anything homophobic either.
Then again, I've never considered the term rent boy to be aimed at people who exclusively sell their bodies to men.

I personally know very little about the usage of the term - it took me a while before figuring out it meant male prostitute (I've sang it at games before). But when a group within our fan base say they dread the prospect of us using it, then I think it's time to retire it!

We failed to beat Chelsea in any of our last 9 meetings with them. We had a spell in which we seemed to be getting the upper hand, after many years of regular losses, but now that’s gone back against us and we can’t beat them.
I wish I had positive belief but, for me, I just want this match over and done with. I couldn’t get to the match as have important family stuff, but would otherwise have liked to have been there as I know the atmosphere can be great on days like today.
Please can all those going sing their hearts out. Shout in support as loud as you can. Yes, I know you may not like the starting 11, might not want to have certain players playing, but for 90 minutes that’s not important. What is important is that the chosen team is representing our club, and as such, all players should be supported as a team. If you want our players to give their all on the pitch, then please give our all off the pitch.
Let’s turn the form books upside down. Let’s get a win to be the best that we can be, and secondly to shut the Chelsea supporters up. I believe in all you going, let’s make it noisy!!

I agree if chants are offensive to certain non football groups we should stop them, I've no problem with chants that offend other fans about their club or players as long as they are football related.

That may be hitting the tickle my balls with a feather re the definition. I’d taken it as a slur on Chelsea players being the type that would do absolutely anything for money but a quick google about the “song” referred back to a time a Chelsea hooligan was caught in a raid in bed with a male prostitute.

Agree. From January to May that season, the last few months at the old WHL we were a seriously good team. Really should’ve won something. We’ve never been at that level since.

I was thinking back to that win yesterday. One of my favourite displays, came in to the match with hope but not expectation. Excellent result and a great team performance. Our team is undeniably weaker now than it was but sometimes all it can take is a moment and the greatest results can be achieved.

I think the tweet could’ve provided more context, that helps a bit more to educate than solely saying to stop using the term as I can see why some people may not react well to being censored.
Sure as hell I don’t want anyone to fear going to the game out of feeling persecuted, it’s bad enough just fearing the football itself! I believe I understand this one a bit more now but the debate of where the line is drawn is interesting to me, however probably for another thread.
It was always explained to me as a chant about the fact that the players and fans only turned up when the money did. That they would do anything for a Ruble.
I don't consider that to be homophobic unless men can only sell their bodies to other men, which I don't believe is the case.
If the origin is as @spurspinter1 points out above then that's different. I can see how embarrassing such a story would have been in the homophobic world of Chelsea fans.

Never ever thought it was in any way homophobic. Always thought 'rent boys' referred to them being just a bunch of hired guns that only play for money, without any real connection/affection to the club.

Rent boys has never been about the rouble. I can't quite tell if people are genuinely ignorant of the term or deliberately denying the term's homophobic nature. It has been a stock derogatory term since the 70s, fairly widely used in TV and film. Any dramatisation featuring Tory MPs in the last 40 years has had some allusion to the term - young, often vulnerable, male sex workers that are used by paying males (mainly Tories and rich men) for sex.
Think the link to Chelsea was probably the lifestyles in the Chelsea, Fulham, King's Road area in the late 60s and 70s. If it hadn't been insulting and offensive it wouldn't have become an enduring terrace chant and ridiculing one bunch of players for being mercenary would have had no staying power.
