Yet at least one of the "crosses" and the chance that lead to the penalty were from inside the width of the box. Both created by through balls into the box, which is precisely what those who understand that crosses are low-return keep asking for.

I like Janssen, but he was nowhere near good today. Totally invisible in the first half, and when he did get the ball, his touch was bad. His work rate and fighting improved in the second half, but he wasn't good. He did do very well to bring down the ball and get the shot away for Winks to score from the rebound, but that was about it.

You really are nit picking. We went wide, we got in behind them, we got to the by line, we pulled the ball back. We scored three goals as a result. We didn't do any of that in the first half.

We put in through balls inside the line of the box (a high return option) and pulled the ball back inside the box.

That's very different to going wide and crossing, in method, style and result.

You load the 3 to the left and have Walker as a more orthodox FB on the right, it's not a balanced system but it doesn't have to be, we did similar under Hoddle on occasions iirc

Agreed, and it will end up like that. Not owning your stadium is a recipe for disaster, as it having a running track around a stadium. I'm guessing that they blew most of the proceeds from selling their ground on the dross which they brought in this summer

Absolute twaddle. Rose beat his man down the outside, got to the by line, pulled it BACK for VJ. Son goes to the byline and pulls it BACK for Harry to score. Son gets to the by line and would have pulled the ball back had he not had his legs taken.

In every case, we turned the defence and got the defenders facing the wrong way. This all resulted from us going wide and getting to the by line.

Totally different in methodology from just wafting aimless crosses into the area, which some teams do and which therefore necessarily skews the stats. Also totally different from just playing in front of a defence and trying to go straight through the middle like we did in the first half.

There is a time and a place for each tactic, one is not mutually exclusive of the other for the entire game.
