On the goal he holds his hands out to signal letting it run to the keeper. If he is told that there is a man making the run, he should deal with it.
I disagree with that, it's fine if the keeper (and only the keeper) tells you to let it run, if nobody shouts though you assume the worst and deal with it
Lloris may well have told him to in which case it's on him, other than that Verts has to make it safe
Well, we can all agree that it was a case of bad defending by the team, but also a brilliant pass and good move by Anderlecht. Very similar to Eriksens pass to Kane for the 4th goal vs BournemouthHe is signalling that he is going to let it run. I did not see any sign of another player telling him that he needed to deal with it.
I am not absolving Vertonghen of any blame here but I do think that it was primarily a communication issue.

IMO it's his job to clear that ball unless he has a shout to do otherwise - especially when letting it run to the keeper. On the goal he holds his hands out to signal letting it run to the keeper. If he is told that there is a man making the run, he should deal with it.
The Olive Branch looks like it was designed to be difficult for opposing fans to attack! Was anybody else in the Olive Branch pub after the game?.... I thought for a while that it was going to get rather hairy...
There were probably about 40 Spurs fans in there having a drink in there and probably a couple of hundred Anderlecht outside, some chucking a few bottles etc.... about 10 of their security escort with them but no police to be seen anywhere. They were probably there for around 20 to 30 minutes in all before the meat wagons turned up.
I wonder whether Poch does it to establish whether the opposition are looking to man mark any of our players or make sure that specific players are always close when they receive the ball?Btw. Anyone else curious about how Lamela and Eriksen seemed to operate primarily on opposite flanks to where they usually line up? As always there was quite a bit of movement and interchanging going on, but it seemed like Lamela clearly had his starting position on the left. (Yes I know they swapped towards the end of the Villa game too)
Perhaps just Poch playing them in different roles to keep them developing, could easily prove helpful as they do move around a lot anyway? Or something about this game that made it more beneficial?

The way I saw it, it was an extremely difficult pass to defend. The pace and direction of the ball would have made it difficult for Verts to deal with it and prevent Ezekiel from getting to it and scoring, even if he didn't let it through. And even if Davies was tracking Ezekiel, given the angle at which the ball came he would have been on the wrong side of Ezekiel.IMO it's his job to clear that ball unless he has a shout to do otherwise - especially when letting it run to the keeper.
It may be that Hugo shouted and shouldn't have - I couldn't hear a shout though. It's always helpful if your team mates are shouting to put the ball into the stands, but that still should be the default position unless told otherwise.
Defence was fine, that wasn't the issue. The problem was that we didn't kill them off and instead of that started to do backheels and shooting on goal with the outside foot instead of just using the other foot. This shows our defence need to improve more if we want to achieve something this season.
