It just inevitable when you have owners who don't care and are just phoning it in till they can cash out

The deal was agreed but his chairman went back on it. Fernandes was distraught at the time. I remember there was more than a whiff of suggestion that there was inducement to play us along because Man Utd would be able to have a go in the summer

We never agreed a fee with them.

We prepared for his sale by putting a fair price on him, and we had bids, but the only serious offer was from Tottenham and that was €45 million (£40m/$50m) plus another €20m (£18m/$22m) in bonuses for winning the Premier League and the Champions League.



“Those are difficult objectives, so we chose not to accept.

I won't debate the correctness of the sending off, but I wonder if I saw the same thing as so many others? I heard the commentators repeatedly refer to the action as a "tackle" or a "challenge," whereas I saw a follow-through (reckless or otherwise) from a pass by the player with ball.

This is the Guardian's version: "Romero retaining his place backfired with his X-rated challenge on Casemiro. Outside Spurs’ area the ball ran to the Manchester United midfielder only for the Argentinian to stamp on his left ankle."

Really? A challenge on Casemiro, to whom the ball had run?! Perception is everything.

I thought the idea of sacking the manager who actually managed to win us something to bring a new manager in was to improve our league form?

Now all the narrative ever is is one of 'Well we haven't been good for a while anyway'.....

The new man hasn't been able to arrest the problems we already have. It just demonstrates that the problems we have are deep set and no quick fix is applicable.

I noted this too. It is the opposite of what happened!

For me these "signs of progress" are only symbolic of how bad we've been of late.
This is still really poor.

Yep, not a bad performance considering x caveat, and no win, that's our bar now.

Inconsistent ref (being fudging generous)
Xavi still improving
Palhinha is a brilliant player
Souza didn't look too out of place
Vic kept the scoreline down

Some of the old issues still there, discipline, zone 14, not managing players returning from injuries.

We've had a brick load of games to see what life without Romero is like already, this isn't his first suspension

I'm comfortable with selling him, we would get a good fee and we have solid defenders in Danso, Dragusin and potentially could look at the very talented Vuskovic. Sure Romero is good on the ball, but that's not enough to outweigh the rest of his game for me....

Not sure about Dragusin. Has been poor in the last 2 games. A lot of that will be down to rustiness, but I thought their first goal was as cowardly an attempt to defend as I have seen from a defender.

The decision to appoint TF if it doesn't work out is not evidence that it was wrong to sack Ange. We saw the same issues last season in the league. Ange was not good enough; beating teams in the EL doesn't prove he is. TF has also excelled against teams of the same level this season in the CL. We need a manager who can actually improve us in the PL as I don't think this team is as bad as we are showing.

The positives - which have been developing for the last 15 games - is our build up play. Genuinely better than most teams at passing the ball around. Partly due to Xavi finding his rhythm. And Gallagher helps too. Idk why the lamenters think this fast moving passing style is ugly to watch.

The bits that need fixing are the critical areas at both ends of the pitch. We make mistakes in defence - Romero today. And could Vic have got to their first goal? The main issue is we have to do better getting the ball into the oppositions net.

I’ll take away the spells where we dominated possession and worked the ball through them with pace in the first 30, we looked the better side in spells.

First goal wasn't on Vic mate, it was on the team leaving that zone 14 open again.

The issue is regardless of if we were a match (and they didn't impress me that much), we got nothing out of it. We don't have a win in the PL in 2026, looking good for periods isn't enough.
