***Tottenham Hotspur v Fulham OMT***

But he DID rotate.

<<THE GUARDIAN - Villas-Boas had started with five of the players who had played the 120 minutes at San Siro and four who had not featured>>

I would personally NOT have played Verts today as he has looked VERY tired, but he cannot rest everyone, thus Walker got the rest today (doubtless because there's international duty ahead)...again, personally, I would not have played Parker today either. So call it a mistake or a choice, your decision.

What would YOUR side have been today?

A lot easier with hindsight now. No guarantee that whatever he put out it wouldn't have been as sloppy as today.

But he did ask Ekotto and Siggy to play out of position today and I feel that hurt us today. Verts could have easily been given a rest with Ekotto at LB. Holtby is clearly a player. Yes he's been poor since the Inter games. But prior to that he's been good and there's clearly a player there.

Of course no guarantee but with what I've just seen I would have done something like

--------------------Lloris----------------------
Walker---Dawson-----Caulker-------Ekotto
-----------Carroll------Dembele-------------
---Holtby------------------------------Bale--
--------------Defoe-----Adebayor-----------

Nothing like the team I originally chose before the game. But I just want to see ball playing footballers again. People who are not shy of the ball and want it. Siggy looked lost on the right. and knackered too.

I hope there was not too much booing at the end; couldn't tell much from Radio (few murmurs?) but am still to hear from my mate who went today. I know he said we were dire first half though

I agree with all the above mate.
Siggy looked very lost to me, always seeking the inside (as he would, he's not a wide man) and yes, Holtby appears to have something going on (cannot figure out what but it must be something) as otherwise even his energy in synching/trying to synch with Bale would've been welcome...I think I'd have gone for Dempsey in that above formation as opposed to Defoe (Defoe off the bench) although Defoe is good against these sides for 90 mins and Ade played a lot of football last week...

Usually, i hate international breaks because i just want to see Spurs every week and as much as I can but they've tinkled me off too much and now I couldn't care less when they next play. We need that international break, hopefully we come back fresh and everyone raring to go, no injuries please.

Just read that Adebayor has scored the same amount of goals this season as Pavlyuchenko in his half season for us last year where he only played in the cups...

The general consensus from me is that we clearly showed again that we will never be a top side. The mentality of the players is what causes this, certainly not ability. It shows season after season, see Wigan, Norwich, Fulham etc. We can show just how good we can be at times then show just how brick we can be at others.

Wouldnt worry though, give it a day or two and we'll get the usual idiot players popping up saying brick like... 'were all gutted, we know how important it is, we will pick ourselves up for the next game, its still all to play for, its in our own hands etc etc' the usual flimflam which makes it all better.

What's the general consensus on this one? Is this one on Villas Boas?

I blame AVB for giving Adebayor 120 minutes after coming back from injury.
I blame AVB for bringing Lennon on at all.
I blame AVB for giving Vertonghen a start today after 120 minutes despite having adequate replacements.
I blame AVB for starting Sigurdsson on the right of midfield.

Thats about it. Players have themselves to blame. It's not AVBs fault that they can't create anything against the likes of Riise, Reither and Senderos.

I also think not having Bale mix up where his plays from is a mistake. If he starts on the left, then heads to the right then pops up in the middle he causes defenders to THINK. If he's just on the right they will try and keep him off his left foot (unlike WBA) and he is easier to play against.

Fair comments...I would add that it was odd to experiment with Benny like that first-half. We had the players on the bench to not make that necessary and thus give Verts a rest. Thing is, it suggest that something must be going on with Holtby, what I (obviously) don't know. But too many players were simply out of sorts today...I think today is a bad day at the office for all concerned. Thursday I'd say was AVB's first major gaffe, today was a collective.

The truth is somewhere in between AVB's selections, Levy's policies and scouting network, the players not performing and the crowd being a bit too nervy. A remarkable result against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge could turn this all around. That's if we somehow manage to scrape some wins v Swansea and Everton first

Agreed, but to be fair, it looked like he was clearly a 60% in the second-half, and frankly, I could say that THIS was a mistake from AVB to even leave him on!!!!

I think like Inter AVB got it wrong here too. Playing too many players out of position was always going to end badly. It didnt look like we had a plan to break down Fulham at all and for large periods of the game our whole right flank was useless. That said, Defoe had 2 huge chances and could have turned the game around and we'd be hailing a super sub.

Again I just had a feel that without Lennon whatever we chose might have given the same type of performance. Unfortunately Gareth wasn't really on it today. And sadly we looked completely limp as a result.

Reminded me so much of the game we lost to Norwich last year. That's what cost us CL then, and today is what will cost us it this season as well.

And next season, one of our players will come out and guarantee that we'll finish above Arsenal despite not doing it since 1995.
