Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

They're crazy about their football over there. Buenos Aires is a lovely city. We lived close to El Monumental and became friends with a River fan our first day there, so ended up becoming fans ourselves and went to a few matches. I would say the River part of the city is nicer and less dangerous than Boca as well, but La Bombonera is probably more of a spectacle! You can't go wrong with either though. :)
I take it you're not black then. My experience of Argies are rascist scum.

We actually experienced some of that, but not nearly as bad as a black person would, I would imagine. There were definitely racists there, we both saw and heard some really bad stuff. A bit off topic now, but anyway, there were a lot of strange views on women in general - I had to push an argie bloke up against a wall to save a friend of mine from being dragged into a toilet at a club (the same girl got shouted at and eyeballed by every single dude in the club - it was just the way it was). I was sitting with her and her friend once in a smaller bar when a guy approached me and asked me if I wanted to switch - he had two girls following him and looking at me to make a sort of deal. It was weird, and they had a few weird things like that.

So yeah, Argentina can be a mixed bag for sure, but there are lots of lovely people there as well, most of them I would say (we were there for 6 months), we only saw the really bad brick once alcohol and drugs were involved.

My experience was in Brazil. I ended up on a restaurant table with Argies. I was slightly uncomfortable the conversation would turn to the Falklands. They said to me, don't worry about Malvinas, you are like us [white], not like these dogs [black Brazilians].

I've been to both too. River Plate is a tad shabby but impressive still when you contextualize all that has happened there. La Bombonera is epic, in the Caminato area of Boca (Painted Street - I've got that right yes Daisuk?)...the area is rougher but on match days, being sensible and aware will see you absolutely fine. The stands are so steep at the chocolate box!

It's a really weird thing. I have always found the pervasive 'Europeaness' of both Argentina and Chile leave it being susceptible to more of the prejudice you're talking about. We all know the more modern history of migration to those areas in SA (Uruguay too for that matter)...Brazil, by contrast, has always been 'crazier' in my experiences (it has been a long time since I was there but for a stretch of years I seemed to be there a lot). I instantly loved Brazil, and over time I have come deeply enjoy Argentina (well, Buenos Aires - only been to two areas of that country)...

Didn't get down to Argentina or Brazil but having been through Mexico to Venezuela I got a fair impression of the Latino culture and the racism out there, whilst very much out in the open, didn't really feel to be anything more than superficial insults/banter - but then I only experienced it from the view of a tourist backpacker so might not have picked up on a more insidious side to it

No, I think that's a pretty accurate assessment TBH. I love Mexico BTW...there is certainly a superficiality to it that is at total odds with western culture.

I thought they had refurbished El Monumental a few years ago, but I may be wrong - it was definitely quite shabby when we were there as well! Caminito, I think! But yes, lovely little area worth visiting. Bombonera is indeed the most impressive of the two! Cant wait to see if they build and finish the new one! Looks epic!
