Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Frank has a good squad and should finish in the top 6 and vastly improve our game from where it is right now. If he doesn't get any of the 2 done by the end of the season we should sack him. I think a great manager would be right up there with Aston Villa with our squad.
Problem is that villa were down and out a month ago, so your reference falls flat. If we go on a run of 8 wins in 10 then we will be third.

Also we need to get away once and for all from the mantra that everything can be fixed by sacking the manager. We are literally the embodiment of proof that doesn't work.

The club has been around for 130 odd years, so changing things every 18 months is daft. Let someone build a fudging dynasty will you???

Didn't Redknapp have Palacios, Sandro, van der Vaart, Bale, Modric, Walker, Defoe, Keane, Parker, Adebayor, ? Not saying necessarily better than Poch, but 4 of those players for Real Madrid, and two of them were in the top 3 players in the world in their position.
I prefer Harry's teams if I'm honest, more my style more creative. The best football I've ever seen at Spurs was the team that had Modric and VDV in it.

We had a great defense, a world class midfield and fudging sublime quality on the wings. The only thing that team lacked was a fudging top quality striker. Miss me with any Defoe talk please if you don't want me to hurt your feelings. 🤣. Ade was the right type physically but the biggest mistake with him is that he was never a no9, he was a 10 or a support striker. He liked creating chances as much if not more than actually scoring them.

Give a 22 year Kane to Harry Redknapp with the rest of that side and I honestly think we win the league or get very fudging close.

I think we will finish somewhere between 9th-13th. We’re really not very good at football and we have poor technical players.
Poor technical players?

Name a better crosser at right back in the prem than Porro.
Name a better tackling 6 than Palhinha
Name a better ball playing centre half than Romero.
Name a faster more skillful left sided centre half than VDV.
Name a more talented 19 year old in midfield than Bergvall.

There's plenty of talent and plenty of technical skill in the squad, what there is is a lack of confidence and all our creative players are broken.

It's really not hard to see that until we have a more creative player firing on all cylinders we are going to be workman like and grind out results.

You know what's funny, me and you have been saying this for at least 3 years at this point (and I think longer honestly) yet even though some have started to see this truth so many are still stuck with their heads in the sand and can't actually see what right in front of them. It's bloody remarkable. 🤣

That's a bit of a blinkered view of our squads technical quality. Of course there are players within the squad that have some quality in certain areas, if there weren't then the transfer department would need investigating for outright fraud.

The amount of unforced errors, poor passess, easily dispossessed dribbles, crosses which get no further than the first man, shots which barely threaten the target, etc etc on display game after game are a much better indicator.

Today the intent was better, at least in the first half, but time after time the on the ball ability of the players let us down - now of course we need to keep in mind this was probably our 2nd choice attack (bar Kudus) and there were a lot of youngsters on the pitch (who will by their nature be patchy in performance) but we aren't working from a base of having a good level of (consistent) technical quality on the pitch currently.

And yet we find ourselves 13th in the league table.

Since you asked, I’d take Reece James over Porro, not that we’d get him of course.

A better tackling 6 than Palhinha? Try Rodri, Rice or Caicedo or Gravenberch.

Romero is world class on his day but he’s also a loose cannon and can never be fully trusted to complete 90 mins.

VDV has elite speed. Is he an elite defender? Not at the moment he isn’t.

Excellent analysis.... the follow on is what sort of analysis we do before buying players? I would think passing ability is a pretty easy stat to evaluate....

no i think spurs fans want exciting football with risk taking up front. the only reason richy is not getting lots of jeering is because he still puts in worldies from time to time. for a long time we always had that special player - son, kane, bale, dele, erikson, modric, berbatov, sheringham etc . to provide special moments. feels like we are back to the meh years pre-redknapp where we were a retirement home for PL players and sheringham as captain. i don't know if TF understands the long history here, because if he does, he would build the team around kudus - our most exciting attacking player right now, and think of something else when the injured stars are back

but the potential for these players were there from the price and wages that arsenal had to shell out
Any manager that looks to build a team around Kudus deserves immediate sacking

I would probably need to see examples of posters saying that. You can probably tell with myself that I don't think the squad is poor as any argument for and against Frank. In fact, I'm into this DOF model where the squad will always keep evolving the squad and let that transcend manager changes. We've seen a couple of times recently where the manager has changed but the best players just assimilate quickly to the new manager's demand. Romero has had no issue switching between Conte, Ange and Frank's different defensive setups. He was just an amazing signing for our club and I want more of those.

When I think about it more Ange and Poch were chalk and cheese with their squads. Poch had a major cull over 2 summers and created a lean squad of about 15 core supplemented by the names you mention e.g. Janssen, Wimmer, NKrap etc. After the purchases of Dele, Son, Dier, Davies, Vic etc and the emergence of a young Winks, Poch had a fantastic core. There was no way Ange could sustain a small core. He seemed to need a very big squad and the club did well to build it out for him. Obviously it is Ange's extended squad that Frank inherited. Now we're seeing some early iterations from Frank. Brennan being rotated out is the first one of those as Frank puts his own stamp on it.

Personally, I'm not sure Frank will need a monster squad. I think we're more likely to see some unhappy peripheral players who aren't getting game time. That will be even more exaggerated if we lose UEFA comps next season.

We do need to see whether Frank can get a squad to peak together. Poch managed an age range of 9 years between Dele as the young guy and Mousa/Verts as the senior statesmen. He would have had them all in their twenties together briefly.
I think you’re right, after all it’s unlikely he’ll have to play anything other than PL fixtures from next season onward...

Seeing as you were clearly in the dressing room, can you enlighten further please....
Sure thing….

“We’re one goal up and on top but let’s not risk conceding a goal. Drop deeper and deeper into my favoured low block as the game progresses and don’t try to pass through the midfield, instead hoof it long and hopefully we can somehow win the second ball despite not actually getting anyone up there to win them. Play for corners or throw-ins deep in their half and hopefully we can nick a goal from a set piece”

Yet we’ve seen this occur under a number of managers. How could this be!? Nothing to do with tiring players busy schedule and a lack of players to bring on with experience.

Drinking showingnhe can get players like Odobert and tel playing better.

We need more from the transfer team and more maturity and support from fans.

We have no passers in the squad. It's astounding how well we've done at NOT buying any players whose specialism is actually the quality of their passing. How you can build a squad across multiple managers and never get a player in midfield who you can look at and say that their passing is even above average is crazy to me. It's like we don't actually want technically competent midfielders.

We've conceded from winning positions and lost points for years now. Under an attacking coach like Ange and under defensive coaches like Conte, Jose and Frank. It doesn't really seem to make any difference our intentions.

No matter the coach no matter how well we might have played at an earlier stage of the match, if we haven't given ourselves a significant cushion we are very likely to concede and drop points. It's disingenuous to act like this is something new. It's why we bloody get called fudging sexy.
