The Stats Thread

That could be a bit of a short sighted view if there are underlying issues that the basics stats don't reveal. We've previously had teams that looked good in terms of goals for ana against but the underlying numbers were concerning and in the long run that truth did come to pass.

I'm not saying that's the case this time but just that we do need to be aware that sometimes a pretty or pleasant facade can hide ugly truths.
If we keep winning it's not much of an issue, is it?

Nope, but that's the concern. The stats suggest that we might not keeping winning if those underlying stats bare out. It's happened before primarily under Mourinho, we had some pretty good results initially but the underlying figures were concerning and many ppl at the time had a flippant "if we are winning what's the problem?" attitude and then the those stats did play out and we saw the results begin to nosedive.

Again to be clear I'm not suggesting it's all a house of cards. I've been quite happy with how we've done so far, but seeing those stats in a collated form does leave me with some concerns. It's not often that a team can out perform the underlying stats over the long term.

Whilst the Horseshoe-Of-Death certainly don’t help, the fact that most of our Through-Ball passers over the past 2 seasons have been unavailable to Frank is also a mitigating factor.

Looking at official EPL site, 58% of the 149 through-balls we played during Ange’s tenure were made by players who haven’t been available this season.

Maddison - 12 & 14
Kulusevski - 11 & 12
Sonny - 4 & 17

Porro - 4 & 14
Romero - 4 & 6
Bentancur - 4 & 4
Sarr - 1 & 6
Bissouma - 2 & 3
Werner - 2 & 2

Davies - 1 & 3
Solanke - 3 & 0
Dragusin - 1 & 1
Hojbjerg - 0 & 2

Tel - 2 & 0
Spence - 2 & 0
Richarlison - 0 & 2
Solomon - & 1
Reguilon - & 1

Gray - 1 & 0

Another year we won a trophy.

My response to your post on three year records in another thread:
Looking back through our 3 year (114 PL games) rolling form and it would appear that Crooked Joe’s kids have truly brought us back to where we were before Levy, so mediocre managers combined with limited players would seem like a natural progression as the negative spiral fully takes hold and our rebuild becomes ever more painful…
