I think that the slow start can easily be explained by the team still being a little inexperienced and losing Kane and Dembele. I'm confident that we would cope with that better now.

I don't really buy into the post Euros theory, a lot of clubs would have had players there.
I do think that Poch times it so that we hit peak fitness for the run in. We need to get better at winning ugly in the first half of the season to give us that platform for when our form peaks.

I wasn't trying to suggest that the slow start was something fundamental. It's just one of those things. Losing Dembele meant we had to change how we played to start the season, when more continuity from the end of last season would have helped (I don't mean the last two games) ease new players in. We've generally coped very well with the loss of players this season.
In some ways I think the unbeaten start became a burden. We seemed to be playing not to lose sometimes, which we did, but at cost of points*. After we lost we started playing better.
* Just look at United's 25 (?) game unbeaten run. When it started they were in 6th. And where are they now?

Indeed. It was more that run of 4 draws in October (whilst Chelsea were starting that 12 match winning streak and we were struggling in Europe) plus that darned second half reverse at Stamford Bridge in November which put us out of realistic contention for the title this season.
We did well to reel them in but Chelsea have so many players who experienced winning the title just 2 years ago that there was sod all chance of them doing a Saudi Sportswashing Machine in the run-in.

You need to change the Chart Title though, misleading.
Please also can you add a third part to Tottenham's column of £1.86bn in bright yellow, entitled "Amount Chelsea have cheated, under Abramovich".
Then I can send it round to my friends and unfriends to try to explain what we are dealing with here.
Today someone said to me "Spurs have done really well considering how little they spent last summer... although they did waste a lot on Sissoko". As if last summer was some sort of oddity where we kept the purse strings tight?! Typical Liverpool fan. Ours is an amazing achievement because of the last 15-20 years, not because of last year.

We have 11 15m+ signings? Off the top of my head, I can think of Lamela, Paulinho, Soldado, Modric, Bent, Bentley, Son, Sissoko and Janssen - that makes nine. Where/who are the other two? I suspect Keane might be one (when we resigned him after six months back in 2009), but I'm very dubious about that.

I think Keane was more like £12m, but there were conflicting claims about the real fee because of money owed being written off. I think it was mainly Liverpool trying to hide how much they had lost in 6 months. £250k per week pays a very good player.
This reminds me, there was an interview with Keane and Berbatov on Sunday, with them reminiscing about their partnership and how it was a shame it could continue. Unfortunately the interviewer didn't ask them why they buggered off if the partnership was so great.
