This is a really worrying development for me. Carragher expressed an opinion and had his tongue in his cheek expressing it. If things like that are subject to legal action, that's going to kill punditry. They'll all just give the same bland answers as players and managers do post match.

This will probably go nowhere but it's stress that pundits don't really need - being threatened with legal action in the media by football clubs for expressing an opinion.

Pretty disgusting behaviour from Villa in my opinion and your point about it reinforcing Carragher's point is well made.
I am pretty sure this is going nowhere. And I wouldn't worry about pundits especially Carragher. He's wealthy enough to seek decent legal advice.

How could a judge award for consequential loss? How do you even put a figure on that? Different if they can show they have directly loss sponsors now as a result of the comments but not sponsors they MIGHT lose at a future date. I can't see this going anywhere I'm afraid.

Carragher has already apologised, my initial reaction was that it’s really disappointing that he gave Villa what he wanted, but the more I thought about it, it could well have been the clever move.

Half the lawsuits Trump throws out he knows he has no chance of winning. But it’s the threat, it’s the sense of unpredictability, and it’s the fact that you get everyone talking about you. It’s essentially a content / engagement play. And by apologising straight away…everyone just moves on. Villa look stupid and weird, and the pundits continue about their day. I’m sure Sky told him to apologise but I’m glad they didn’t give him the oxygen.

What a weird weird thing. Is Villa’s standing improved now because they’ve extracted a tweet apology out of a pundit? Are they more likely to sign players now? Or do they just look completely tinpot?

I think they want Eddie Howe but not willing to pay the compensation fee to Saudi Sportswashing Machine. Apparently later on in the season the fee disappears.
Saudi Sportswashing Machine sacked him! No way they can claim compensation from anyone for hiring Howe!
But Howe might have had in his contract that he's not getting paid compensation when/if he takes a new manager job.

When they sack him they pay out his contract. So utd or howe would have to pay that back to Saudi Sportswashing Machine.
There's usually a 6 month or year then a competing club can sign.
Depends on the contract.

Or it's paid out weekly/monthly/quarterly over a set period of time. None of us know.
Regardless, any compensation claim would be against Howe, not a new club. Their agreement is with Howe, not anyone else.

I also believe this is the way it works. Can’t see clawback being practical.

Respectfully, I think you're missing the tactics here.

Some clubs, ours included, are just sick and tired of the bias nonsense that comes out of the mouths of the Sky p ricks. Carragher heads that list with his mate Neville. They happily abuse their position as pundits and take pot shots at different clubs and players. It is as if they untouchable just like the spitting incident which brought Carragher down with a bump in life. He is a lucky man to still have a job at Sky.

I doubt Villa ever thought that it would go to court and become a real lawsuit. However, Sky soon took that little p rick in a room and made him apologise for being a nob. Villa won the battle and put Sky back in their box. Good for them. Now Carragher will just pause a little each time he is about to step out of line. He'll know that thew world is watching his bahaviours and he might change. He is a leopard though.

Personally, I think some of the clubs like us and Villa do need to throw our weight around with entities like PGMOL and Sky once in a while. It keeps them on their toes and make them act more professionally.

Liverpool need to score before half time really.

You know Arteta will just put 74 centre backs on at half time and dive and time waste through the 2nd half.

Arsenal really are the most boring team to watch in the history of football!!! They're a disgrace! Absolutely awful to watch.
