The Official 2018/19 Premier League Thread

I guess we want a draw here? Gain points on both and keep within touching distance.

This is the thinking choice.

However, as much as I hate to say it, I wanted a Chelsea win. One, I think they have more potential overall and we have a better chance of staying ahead of Liverpool. Two, there was a lovely prospect of them losing 3-4 games in a row and I wanted to see how the press handled the "crisis". I can convince myself that the draw is a good result, but I can't enjoy it.

To be honest, I haven’t seen a huge amount of them but they looked anything but solid against Arsenal when I did see them. Just think it’s too early to be saying they’re contenders or judging their manager a success. Would give it another 2-3 months.

They’ll possibly finish ahead of us but I can’t see them lasting the pace with City or even Liverpool.

That's first time I've seen them so not much to go on.

WTF was Sakho up to last night?

That would have been a good result at 1-1. Can't understand why he would do that.

Didn't know where to put this.

Plans to end time-wasting
Football’s law-makers are to investigate new measures to increase playing time in matches because of growing concerns over time-wasting and lengthy delays for set pieces during games.

Cardiff City’s match against Burnley on Sunday established a five-year low for playing time in a Premier League match — the ball was in play for only 42min 2sec. More than eight minutes were spent waiting for Sean Morrison, the Cardiff centre back, to take long throw-ins.

Increasing the amount of playing time is one of the main thrusts of the “Play Fair” strategy that is being considered by the International FA Board (Ifab). An Ifab source said that “a number of new ideas” were under discussion about improving playing time. Measures that could be explored include for the referee to stop his watch from the time a throw-in, corner or goalkick is conceded until it is actually taken. One previous proposal had been for a stadium clock to measure 60 minutes of actual playing time, but that has failed to gain support.

The Ifab source said: “We all want to crack down on major time-wasting and increase playing time but the fundamental question is how we do it.”

Morrison took 20 throw-ins against Burnley. The average time taken was 25sec, with the longest 37sec. Ten of them took longer than half a minute.

The total length of playing time for the match was the shortest for a top-flight game since Stoke City v Aston Villa in December 2013, which was only 40min 50sec.

All law changes or trials have to be sanctioned by Ifab’s annual meeting, being held in Scotland in March.

In what way?

Liverpool would be top, ahead of Pep by 3 points. Chelsea ahead of them also and we would be 1 point behind.

I've always felt that Pep and Mourinho are coaches that are not very comfortable chasing the leaders and are only really comfortable if they have big-ish points leads at the top. It would be interestig to see how Pep would react to seemingly being in a four-way split for the top...Oh and if Arsenal were to also win, it could get VERY congested up there..

You knew Stoke had to have the record.

The referees already have the power and the laws to stop this, they're just failing in their jobs.

The first throw that takes more than 10 seconds - warning to the captain. The second one, yellow card, third one, second yellow. That would stop the problem in weeks.

It is quite interesting to see how they all react to early season pressure.

Pochettino is the easiest to predict - he spent FA and is as always fighting an uphill battle. Nothing has changed for years.
Klopp spent has few a bob and thinks he has to rule footballing world by breakfast. Then there is also the huge pressure from thier fans!
Pep has a bottomless pit of oil money and pressure only he believes from the media!
Sarri is one cool dude and looks like he has not a care in the world, once he can get a bloody light for his cigarette.
Emery has a free hit for around ten seasons.
