The Mason-Bentaleb Partnership

A while back I was more hopeful for Tom Carrol...But now I think Bentaleb has the edge......passing wise they are both Solid but Bentaleb has the physicality & speed over Tom.

Have to admit Mason has come from nowhere but I am loving what he does...and seeing him live for the first time yesterday gave me an appreciation of his qualities.

I love these two together.....yes they will make mistakes but the thought of them playing together more and both improving is very exciting for our future...They bossed it in the main yesterday....and they get the derby!

I agree we need strength in depth but I just think ability, either current or potential, should be the governing factor. I do no think any lack of experience is the reason we are not in the top 4 at the moment
 
Mason's passing was more crisp and even sublime (I even compared him to Pirlo) in his first games and it seems to have deserted him lately, but he makes up for it in fighting spirit. I had been pleading for us to go after Daley Blind before the world cup. How great would it be if we had him too alongside Mason and Bentaleb!

Would love to see the 3 lads get 1-11 squad numbers next year - Kane 10, Mason 8, Bentaleb 4 (would mean we would have to demote/sell Ade, Kaboul and Paulinho though... so that would be a shame ;)

I know 10 has recently been our main striker shirt, particularly Sheringham and Keane. But our 18 is a bit special too because of Klinsmann associations.

8 hasn’t been a fortunate shirt. Recent holders include: Durie, Scott, Dumitrescu, Nielsen, Saib, Sherwood, Postiga, Mendes, Murphy, Jenas, Parker and Paulinho. In fact, reading that back, I think we can conclude that 8 is a cursed shirt.

4 has recently been worn by: Samways, Popescu, Howells, Berti, Freund, Davis, Zokora and Kaboul. So a bit better than 8, but not much.

Boy we've had some terrible CMs!
 
I dont think guys in their early 20s get the 1-11 shirt thing. Even someone as quiet and seemingly down to earth as Eriksen you know he's wearing that 23 shirt because he wanted it.

They may have won us the game against Arsenal, but they lost us the game today (with a bit of help).
 
tonight showed why this thread is a little embarassing... Not only did mason prove why I've always thought. But even bentaleb had a really poor game. He's so young, clearly going to be class, but he has off games pretty regularly, which is to be expected. But this isn't a top 4 partnership!
 
SO! We take off Mason and guess what? Yep, you guessed it, our game plan goes to f***ing shi!t Unreal how f***ing useless they look without him. Once that lot went 3-2 up our boys looked so f***ing toothless you'd have thought we were 4 nil up FFS, their keeper was just a spectator in the last 20 mins. Yes they weren't at their best but they were our hope getting anything from this game.

Good performance as a whole but so p!ssed off right now, f***ing hate Liverpool now, so many careless passes and cannot wait to wake up at 05:30 tomorrow morning with YNWA ringing in my ears, FFS! Thanks Tottenham!
 
We'll just get inconsistency coz they are young players. Neither has played a full season of first team football yet, this is the first proper season for both of them. They'll be fine.

That goes for a lot of our players (young and inconsistent).

Dude, we were awful defensively all game. Mason going off didn't change anything for the worse.
 
There's only so much you can do versus four men in central midfield.
Mason was watching Markovic in the first half and ending up in appearing in some weird positions (closer to left back than cm) when we won the ball back. Bentaleb had his eye on Coutinho.
At half time they swapped around Mason on right now and Bentaleb on the left. They did less of a marking job than before and got a lot more of the ball.
Once Markovic and Sturridge were off the game was there for us to win. But we had Paulinho in there.
 
Bentaleb and Mason both have loose passes in them every game - a performance from them like today was inevitable, but they're still young and so hopefully will continue improving.
 
Their passing was off but I really do think they were tired after all that against the Arse. I think the Arse game took a great deal out of us. We just dont have the squad
