The Mason-Bentaleb Partnership

Gutter Boy

Tim Sherwood
I absolutely love watching these two operating in tandem – they just dominate teams.

Them coming together before Christmas was the turning point for everything.

They are both perfect modern CMs – both fully blessed with aggression, boundless energy, technique, vision, assertive passing and a goal threat.

I don't want a Schneiderlin or Cabeye anymore, because these two need to be at the heart of our team for the next 5-6 years or more.

My top 3 CM partnerships of the last 25 years:

1) Gascoigne-Stewart
2) Mason-Bentaleb
3) Modric-Sandro/Hudd

Well if he is to play in the number 10 role i'm afraid he will be out on loan alot then.

No room for reputation in a Poch team. If he's going to eclipse Eriksen, he'll be allowed to do so

Look how Mason and Bentaleb dispatched AVB's £50m ponderous quartet

I agree with you that these two are exactly what we need in that double pivot. AVB never had it as none of the players he chose had the attributes that these two do, Mason especially was an absolue nightmare for them today.

PS: Modric-Parker, the best partnership we have had there.

we took a lot of risks moving the ball forwards and losing it. but that's where the continuous team pressing pays dividends - there's a much higher chance we will win the ball back in the ensuing melee.

mason and bentaleb has taken time to build an understanding with each other ... and they are both still young - long may it continue !

They were for about 6 weeks in Sept/Oct 2011, but Parker's legs didn't even carry him to Christmas at that level. IMO the 4-0 Liverpool game skews people's perceptions of it.

Exactly Mason got so much stick for the passing on here at ht. But if you look at the stats his passing accuracy percentage is higher than any of the Arsenal players that started.

There was a moment in the second half that summed up Masaleb for me. Kane was under pressure on the edge of the box surrounded by bodies two seconds later Eriksen had possession on the left hand side of their area. Kane back to Benaleb, one touch to Mason who played Eriksen in first time.
Its just simple recycling of the ball. The easiest positive pass at pace before the opposition has any time to react to it.

Yeah - it's ridiculous. His strength is his assertive but slightly higher risk passing. It's what separates him from our others. A few will go astray, but the odds are that he'll be instrumental is helping us create so much more

He's not quite as tidy yet as Modric became, but he's as good an heir to the little man as we'll likely find

you cant deny that if there is a chink in masons armor then its his passing accuracy, particularly when not under great pressure.
no-one would possibly claim he didnt do a sterling job today.

They are also both so hungry for the ball - they are both constantly showing for everyone, and then move it on quickly. It's beautiful to watch

He is a top notch player in arguably the most pivotal role

He tries the harder passes and Yep the don't all come off but it's much better than the safe passes that others may play as it leads to opportunities as you rightly say

And bentelabs cross for Kanes goal was outstanding

I like that they both have a little nasty streak to them. Pure hunger in their play.

It's quite controlled though. It's not like they are meatheads - it's calculated. Fazio, Verts and Stambouli are similar too - clever with their aggression.

Yeah but you have intelligence and common sense... Unfortunately once it's been mentioned a couple of times that masons passing accuracy stat isn't great for this game or that game, whether that statement is accurate or not, it means some people will then just wait for the next loss and if Mason is playing it'll be because his passing is brick. We were losing at half time today and the knuckleheads got a bit ahead of themselves forgetting that there were another 45 to play....Saddest part of it is that on here isn't the worst representation of spurs fans by a long long way.
