The Lane, The Finale

However one that stands out to this day was the second last game of the season back when we were trying to get out of Div2, we were walking the Lge but run into a bad run of form by winning only one of our last 6 games( losing 3 of them).

In our second last game we were at home ( our last game at the Lane that season) against Hull, as i said we were on the point of blowing it and possiably losing out on promotion back to Div 1. We struggled during the game and we were begining to think it was going to be another game where we lost points, when our capt marvel Perryman got the goal that won us the game, talk about joy we all ended up rows down from our seats kissing and hugging everyone we could. We ended up going up in third place on goal difference from Brighton '( whose manager was Mullery).

I will never forget that game.

That was a nerve racking game, one of the few I saw that season, missed a lot of games from the early 60's to the mid 80's
 
The Lane has looked more or less like it does now for as long as I can remember. I remember South Stand being expanded back in the 90's (and Paxton was too, right?), and found a little clip showing it being expanded.


Looking at The Lane from back in the 70's to me it looks quite strange. Nothing like it does now, really. I think (hope) the inside of the new stadium will look a lot more like the current White Hart Lane, than the Lane of the 70's looks like the current Lane, for instance. So hopefully, it's just kind of a transition, and we'll all be able to keep calling it White Hart Lane. :)
 
One of the random things I loved about the Lane was the shape of the goal posts, or more specifically the stanchions. They were unique to WHL and it was sad when they went with the generic box goal nets (which I think became law) for the 1996/7 season.

Probably because he was a very good young player, players form drops or they don't reach their potential, but they don't have to be remember just by their bad games, but Stop! Hammer time, I could never understand the Ginola love-in!
 
I look forward to all the vid's n pic's from those of you lucky enough to be going today, if I'm brave I'll find a stream to watch but I don't want to jinx the boys and 2nd place.
 
quite looking forward to this season being over now - get through the emotion of today, confirm top 2 spot and then move into the summer transfer window. Been a decent season but feels over already
 
Its finally kicking in. On the road in under an hour for the last ever time in old White Hart Lane. Then its going to be another 16 months before we use that stretch of the M25 between J21 and J25.
That night we got planning permission confirmed seems an age ago, but this time next week, (maybe even this time tomorrow) they are going to be knocking the old girl down.

Emotion starting to kick in now. This morning I was thinking of my first game (1976 Boxing Day fixture v Woolwich. 2-2. Willie Young got sent off. Mass player brawl. What better intro could a 10 year old have!) and about my Dad, now sadly passed, who took me. I was driving home this morning from staying overnight after a wedding and on the radio came the Luther Vandross song "Dance with my Father". So that set me off emotionally but I've decided it's an omen. Not sure what of, but an omen all the same. So Dad, if you're looking down, make it a very good one today!!
