I'm not sure if this is them, maybe inadvertently, getting rid of a guy who wasn't effective enough and increasing the chance of better performance. Or crumbling a structure that was already not functioning too well and setting themselves back even more.
It seems like a funny time to do it. Why not wait until the window has closed?
Maybe some of his 'key personnel' were included within the 55 redundancies and he felt that he could no longer do his job?
